Just a note of caution : in the past Aldi's very well PRICED big screen televisions (when one took into account their 3yr warranty & bundled stand/wall brackets etc) - both Plasma historically, and LCD more recently - have all too often either been (initially) advertised with a feature set that the product did not actually 100% have or else advertised with a feature set that the product was not able to deliver in a reliable and proper manner.

That said the spec this time is rather sketchy in not for example even saying what resolution/pixel size the 42" display is and makes no mention of component input (which it might well have?)!

Of course they are NOT alone in sometimes offering more than they can deliver (my own folks had to get two £1100 Sharp LC42XD1E's before they had a satisfactory one, as did most Sharp LC46XD1E purchasers) but it is something to be aware of and wary with a new acquisition.

Just do a search in AVForums and DigitalSpy for Aldi and/or Tevion etc.

Having purchased 3 PVR digital video recorders from them (trying afresh each year!) - all of which were not of merchantable quality; and a car radio that HAD to be on a switched circuit or else it flattened the car battery within 48hrs - I have personally given up on their electronics although the food/drink/hardware remains great value.

With the way large screen marketplace prices have plummetted over the years (have a friend with a £6000 40" Plasma from just 3yrs back, and I have a prize 22" LCD that was £3000 4yrs back!) I think there is less and less scope for major price differential by bulk retailers like Aldi with a non-global-branded high cost item.

Remember if you are going to be there 'on the day' to bag one that often if there is a queue outside the manager hands out 'numbered chits' to entitle you to claim one of the limited number they have (to avoid a fracas when the doors open) and 42" TVs in their boxes are BIG - you'll probably need an estate car/peoplemover and/or a minivan Taxi hired to take it home.

I am being nice to a new poster or is there a rule against that?
It takes a lot of courage to post here for the first time so i think we should all be nice or at the very least welcoming.
People will make up their own minds about the t.v.

Dont like ALDI`s electronics much, but dislike comments like this more. This is simply a heads up, and i imagine it will be competively priced anyway. I certainly wouldnt buy one, simply too big.
You simply dont have to vote (hot or cold) if you dont want to and if people want thats up to them. Are others not allowed a different opinion or what?

As for being nice to the newbies, why not? One day they might spot something you need.
Not voting either way, but rep added.

Ouch think that was a bit harsh people like you are the reason I started this thread a few days ago

I understand your point but it could have been better phrased comments like yours are not constructive.
Well done on your first post aajax 42 and keep looking dont let the negative people put you off theres plenty of supportive members to help out.

Difficult to vote on a deal with no price - but hey you learn by your mistakes and I'm sure the majority of people have double posted, forgot postage, put the wrong price etc so you won't be the first or last. Maybe be better if it was put in miscellaneous for people to comment on the spec or the ups and downs of Aldi TV's, then repost in deals when the price is known and you still consider it a hot deal?

Welcome to Hot Deals anyway, stick around its a good (if mostly expensive :) ) place to be! And dont be put off by the odd negative comment!

Let's play The Price Is Right. I'll send the closest bid a Creme Egg.

I reckon it'll be £649.99.
