£619.95 for me. It says saving applied to price. Does that mean already?

Bit ****. Can't read properly. Not the best idea with my bank card and Christmas savings...

choose a SILVER ONE...oO

Think i would have gone for this if it had an SSD.
CPU is over a year old now but good price for the specs.
If you look at this compare page to a newly released i5, the i5 only edges it in the tests.

Reviews are a bit mixed. Great specs, but quite slow apparently.

This or the i5 (5th gen) Asus for £170 less? Neither are gaming laptops and both are Full HD.

Is this out of stock now? Showing at full price.

The ASUS + £40 for a SSD (and move the HDD to DVD tray or external caddy).

How difficult would it be to swap out the HD in this to SSD drive?

Badge engineered i7 - one of the lowly dual core ones that should be badged i3. Not quite the bargain everyone is hoping for...

Bloody difficult if you Google it. Have to remove keyboard just to get to the chassis screws!

Thanks for the info, that was really helpful :) Reviews say the same, even the positive ones.

Apologies. Deal looks like it's just on silver laptops

Very easy, just remove the screw from the back panel, underneath laptop and swap HDD to SSD

Is this the general view on i7 6500u, are they really that bad they are compared to an i3? Bench mark tests show good results

passmark CPU mark
Intel i7 6500U 4381
AMD A12 9700p 4103
There doesn't seem to be a big difference in processor speed, the i7 comes with the discrete card Nvidia GeForce 920MX (2GB) but apparently the a12 9700p integrated graphics R7 card competes with this same card( a129700p details), not that any of these laptops will be impressive to game on anyway. Imo, the extra £120 is for an extra 1TB memory and for the i7 name, maybe some extra energy efficiency as well(not sure), unless someone can argue otherwise?

Would a 4 core chip be better than a 2 core hyper threaded chip?

Not in a way that 95%+ of users will ever notice. The difference between 4 real cores and 2 real cores + 2 virtual cores is very, very small. You notice the difference when you do things to a CPU that most people would never do on a laptop anyway. good night...

I tested this exact model in a Lenovo shop and I have to say it was quite slow, which I think is due to the lack of SSD. You can get a 750GB SSD for that £170 saving but then it doesn't seem to make it worth it anymore and you will be left with a spare 1TB HDD and probably void the warranty!

No. This is far from a gaming laptop.
You won't have an enjoyable experience.

What are you smoking?
This thing has A GTX 920MX. That'll let you enjoy <30 fps on low settings in most games.

A dual core i7 is pointless. You may as well save some money and grab an i5 or even an i3.

1. I am not smoking at all...
2. if you don't like it, don't buy
3. a year ago, you would not say this is not a gaming laptop
4. if someone asking, is the £500 laptop good for gaming, I guess, he does not have £1000+ to spent on it
5. no one says, it will run latest games on this one
6. with upgraded RAM, yes, it is a gaming laptop, even if you don't like it...
have a nice day
