First post - Please be kind.

Was looking in my local Asda (Hamilton) for a 4Gb Xbox deal. Found a deal of £147 for Xbox and a choice of 1 of 3 games for an extra £8 bring total to £155.

Scanned through till at £137.03 though. I'm assuming it's a glitch on their system.

Hope this is of use to some people.

Awful comment.
Lots of people don't install games to the hard drive nor do they use DLC.
Also, lots of others just use the 4GB one to play one or two games. Just buy a cheap 16GB memory stick...

I actually prefer it to the 250GB version. I don't like the glossy look. And expanding it's storage capacity is easily done with the use of a 2.5" sata HDD. And I believe it works out cheaper.

Not a bad price, but it retailed at £149 on release.

Exactly. This is for my young son. Will not be installing to HDD or on Xbox Live so this is sufficient just now.

Money constraints left this the only choice before Crimbo. Will upgrade with 250Gb HDD in New Year. Needed to get this for sons Christmas though. Still thought it a good deal.

Theres nothing wrong with the 4gb. I actually have the 250gb but hate the glossy look as it just attracts dust all around the vents and have to constantly clean it. Also, the new slim is considerable quieter so you dont need to install games to the hdd anyway. the 4gb is suitable for a casual gamer or for the kids, as they wouldnt use 250gb anyway.

Certain multiplayer games require a harddrive to go online. If you are interested in live multiplayer its worth going for the 250gig xbox.

Can this be any 2.5'' sata HDD or does it have to be those xbox ones?

I have the older xbox with 120GB hd, I've used up about 10gb only , and thats because of demos and videos that I haven't bothered to delete. 4GB is enough to save games and you can just add on a memory stick
#19
people who say the 4th is no good are idiots and don't know what they're talking about. I bought from asda for a similar deal and purchased an 120gb hard drive from an elite, could easily do it with a 20gb or 60gb hdd, I took the casing apart an put the hdd in my 4gb console. Job done!!
I prefer the look of the 4gb too.
It only cost me £20 for the hdd, plenty of videos on YouTube show you how to do it.

Heat added and a great find.

can we end the hard drive debate and confirm whether this is a nationwide glitch or just a one-off

Just wanna add, the 4GB is of immense use to me

The finish is so much better than the 250gb.

I have a 250gb upstairs in my room, when I wanna play downstairs, take the hard drive out, pop it in the 4gb console - easy as pie.

Many uses ;)

xbox slim 250gb =£200
or
xbox slim 4gb + game = £137
+wd 250gb HD = £25
total = £163

£40 cheaper this way and you get to split the cost, upgrading when you need to

you are aware that this has a hard drive, yes? your comment is a bit like saying "don't buy that ford focus, some people require you to have four wheels to go on the road, so you'd be better off buying a ferrari."

the 4gb does the job he needs it to do, just as the 250gb is more suited to the needs of others.

That was an error which has been addressed. Not an actual feature of the 4GB version.

If you know nothing about it why speak?

You can convert a 4GB into a 250 GB quite easily for about £35. (Now you know)

I think it's quite sad that someone has posted in such a way, you feel you have to justify, or at least mention finances that have influenced your decision :(
What a shame
I hope your son is as over the moon as you hope he will be :)

Could you link where to get this HD from ?

Beening looking on ebay, but seem to see 20GB HD for around £20.

Wondered if a few xbox boffins could help me out as I have a few questions.

We already have a 120gb Elite (with 2 xbox live gold memberships) & are looking at getting a new 4gb slim for another room, so the questions are:-

1) Can both profiles/memberships be copied (not moved) to the new slim therefore allowing us to simply log in to the desired profile on any machine?

2) Had a quick search for the 'putting a 250gb drive in a slim' instructions but can't find it - all the instructions seem to refer to older 360's, can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Hopefully that one will do the job BUT dont take my word totally! Dont want to be responsible for it not going well :P Do a little googling using that product to make sure it works.

As for the copying profiles, I think you can log into your xbox live profile from any machine but there may be one problem, offline gaming. Say you have a duplicate off your profile on upstairs and downstairs machines. You turn on the machine downstairs and get from level 1 to level 10, and save. Unless this data is saved on the online profile (which I dont think it does, could be wrong!) When you turn on your machine upstairs, you will still be at level 1.

The profiles are only direct copies of each other at the point of the copy. From then on, they are seperate. (Unless its saved to the online profile) Can anyone clarify on this?

I've heard rumors that if you put a non Microsoft hard drive into a new 4GB 360 Microsoft can ban your Xbox Live account. So I would be careful if you are thinking of doing this.
