Just received an email about this deal today. Looks pretty good to me

Avista Restaurant in the heart of Mayfair has gained praise from the prestigious Michelin Guide and Tatler Restaurant Guide 2009, and recently featured on BBC’s “MasterChef”. For £79, Travelzoo subscribers can enjoy an exclusive 5-course dinner or lunch for two with a choice of anything from the menu at this highly rated Italian restaurant, located within the Millennium Mayfair Hotel. This extravagant meal for two would normally cost as much as £172 and includes:

Two glasses of prosecco and a selection of canapés

Any two starters, such as:
- Mozzarella with cherry tomatoes and basil
- Marinated salmon with orange, apple and ginger dressing

Any two main courses, such as:
- Lobster linguini with tomato, garlic and chill
- Rib-eye steak with rocket and horseradish

Any two desserts, such as:
- Tiramisu
- Fig and cinnamon tart with vanilla ice cream

Two speciality coffees and petit fours.

Avista has received two AA Rosettes for its excellent cuisine and has been applauded by the Tatler Restaurant Guide for its homemade pasta and “bend-over-backwards” service.
Beyond the Deal

Head chef Michele Granziera was brought up in Italy, just outside Venice in an area famous for its prosecco. He has previously worked as a chef in Paris; in a 2-Michelin-star restaurant in London; for a multi-millionaire on his private jet; and in the private employ of “some very famous 'A list’ celebrities”.

How big are the portions you get? I've seen these posh places on TV and the "meal" only looks suitable for an anorexic.

No idea, I've never been, but don't base your judgements on "these posh places" from things you've seen on the TV.

remember you are paying to also have a very well cooked meal with fine ingredients, it's being cooked by chefs who care about the food rather than clocking off at the end of the night etc... it's also in mayfair, so i'd imagine it's a a lovely location, as well as a good restaurant. and at the of the day, if it's a treat for a loved on, i don't think £79 is an astronomical amount to pay... that might just be me though

With such a discount, I assume the meal won't be cooked by anyone that made it into the Quater Finals.

The chef is Michele Granziera

Quite tempted. I've just booked a £25 room at the Holiday Inn mayfair with the offer that is running for today only for 1st week of January, quite fancy a posh dinner as well to go with it.

Actually not sure, if you look at the menu from the link posted above, Travezoo say starters such as Brochette. Well that's only £4.50 on the menu so may not be such a bargain.

Considering myself and wife pay around £75 - £80 at our local restaurant I think this is a cracking deal considering the quality that is on offer or at least should be 8)

Don't worry, it says "any" on all the courses, so you could go for the most expensive one if you were worried about value for money. If you're in London, i could also recommend gauchos, they have them elsewhere but i went for a fantastic meal there in September (came to about £100) for the 2 of us with drinks and 3 courses (though we shared a dessert)

What's this £25 room at the Holiday Inn Mayfair?! Just had a look on their website for all dates in the first week of January and can't see anything remotely near that price! Would book this and a room if that was still available!

"how big are the portions...we got this n that... go for the most expensive one"
Just check out you self indulgent lot...makes me sick!
£79 would feed a family in a poor country for a month...so why not donate?...you'll feel much better afterwards certainly much more than any poncy mayfair dinner could make you feel.
My money is going to help those less well off this Xmas & not a fat cat.

Congratulations. But what about the deal - thats what this site is about - right? And if we are going to talk about donations - dont waste your money. This (and previous) governments have been giving YOUR money to third world countries for some time.....and continue to do so when the economy is so called broke.....The amount of money that is wasted is criminal.

Case closed my lord....enjoy wasting further money on nothing. I encourage anyone who has actually dontated to third world (and not set it up themselves or been involved, via a stakeholder or otherwise) to show how thier money has assisted.

Off my soap box - great deal. Great post. Many thanks!

That takes my award for worst post I've seen on this site. This is a low amount for a restaurant in this part of the world. If someone wants to pay that for a nice meal let em, they can still give money to charity afterwards.........wow speechless.

If I give to charity does that make me the best person in the world currently, in the future and the past?
