I'snt this a standard thing now at Argos, didn't know it started or stopped, just thought it was the usual deal here... may be wrong?

Not standard - comes on fairly often but is not on all the time.

I knew it would be the case but thought I'd check

Do they still allow you to keep the gift card when you return goods? Me and my brother did this a few years back and racked up 100 quid in cards from 10 purchases that we returned. Id have thought they wise to this now tho

Excellent, I was about to purchase something for £109 but figured I'd hold it until closer to the weekend in case they did this type of deal. :)

That's immoral and potentially illegal as your intentionally stealing gift cards by misusing the promotion..

But yeah probably still works as the gift cards are automatically given

The gift has to be returned and would be specified on your receipt.

If it did not it is not unlawful. There is no such offence in English law of "misusing a promotion."

Exploiting a promotion is not immoral. Most corporations and people seek to get the best deal or minimise taxes. This is no different. The o2 refresh deal of paying off a phone and cancelling a contract is also not unlawful.

I once took an item back and they deducted the cost of the gift card - I hadn't used it but had mislaid it - think if I could have given them the unused gift card back I would have had a full refund.... probably because of people who have abused the system.

No, it is not about as you mention "abused the system"

It actually states on the terms and condition:

If all or some of the product(s) are returned under the Argos 30-day money back guarantee, thereby reducing the value of the original transaction to a) less than £50 (in respect of transactions between £50-£99.99) or b) less than £100 (in respect of transactions over £100 or more), the free vouchers must be returned. If the voucher is not returned, the voucher amount will be deducted from the money refunded.

It was fair enough - by abused the system I was referring to a post who said they had made £100 by returning goods and having a full refunds - as asked by ultra2extreme

You are absolutely correct. This is misleading advertising & should be banned.

No need to take the high ground. Just because you're upset with a comment I made on another deal. Pathetic really X)

I got a £10 Argos Gift Card from £30 in Gift cards + £76 odd merchandise. Was expecting just £5
