I bought one just like this from Tesco a couple of years back for £30.

It's like a cheap version of a Flip or similar.

It's decent in good light, but performs poorly in the dark. (bit like me) ;)
What makes this a good deal? I mean, where is something of similar quality more expensive? (i.e. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hd-c4-2-7-tft-lcd-5-0-mega-pixels-8x-digital-zoom-camcorder-with-sd-slot-4-aaa-42050 is the same sort of idea, just 25% cheaper..)

Off the deal, this is going to be very poor. Most people carry better quality recording on their mobiles.
For Christ sake the 1080p Panasonic with 8mp still from Amazon is less than this why the hell is this tat hot.

get a 10megapixel digital camera with 5x optical zoom and 720p hd video instead, should be able to buy one for about 60-70 quid now. (make sure it can optical zoom whilst taking video) optical stabilisation is also good to but may cost a bit more. also look for stereo recording.
see the kodak m575 its about 90 pounds but will blow this aldi thing out of the water, (does not have zoom in video but this may not a deal beaker)
who buys this aldi rubbish ???
who buys this aldi rubbish ???

people who shop at lidl
this looks terrible. surely even the cheap vivitars would be better (and probably cheaper) than buying this?
