omg sorry to hear about that.Dont understand why these carparks give out these fines when you are actually spending time in your local store.

A shopping centre near me has a maximum 3 hour stay, but if i spend an hour and a half in Tescos doing my weekly shop, go into the pet store looking for trewats etc for my rabbit and visit the other retail stores or fast food outlets such as KFC, Mc Donalds i could spend a lot longer than 3 hours - its stupid.

Anyway about the £5 off voucher, thanks for the heads up OP. I got one in the Sun last week and on the morning i planned to go and use it, i turned the house upside down looking for it, only to realise i had used it as a layer in the rabbit hutch

can you still use these in tescos as well

Speak to their customer services, if you genuinely spent over 2 hrs in their store I don't think they would fine you £50 quid. Could be wrong though..........

£5 off £30.........what PS3 games are they competitively priced on :santa:

Yes you are right , was a £5 off £30 for Somerfield last saturday which expires today. There was also the same voucher in the sun on Thursday and yesterday and they expire on 31st october. No problem using the voucher s from last saturday in TESCO, i picked up 2 copies of the sun and got £5 off £30 on groceries then went back during the week and got £5 off £30 on a PS3 game. The vouchers have a barcode on them and the staff scanned them no problems at the checkout.
Plan to do the same with the vouchers from this week

Re the Morrison's £50 fine:

Tickets issued by private companies
Private companies can issue tickets to drivers parked on their property, but the rules are not the same as local authorities.

If you receive a ticket in a private car park, such as a supermarket car park, or private multi-story car park, remember that it is not criminal law, but contract law that applies. The driver enters into a contract with the landowner when they driver into the car park.

This means that it is only the driver that can be subject to a ticket from a private company. If they do not know who the driver was, they cannot claim a penalty. They have no legal right to demand that you identify the driver.

If you are approached by a member of staff inside a private car park there is no obligation for you to assist them in any way

If the company wish to pursue a claim in the small claims court, they have to prove that you were the driver of the car. Any comments that you make may assist them in this aim, so best to say nothing.

If you refuse to pay, the private company has to pursue you through the small claims court. It is up to them to prove a breach of contract so look at the terms carefully. These are usually printed on a sign at the entrance to the car park.

Additionally, you may be able to reduce any fine issued by a private company. Under contract law, they can only claim for any loss they have suffered because of your offence. They may try to claim a penalty of, say, £100, but in law they may only be entitled to any revenue they had lost. So, if you pay £2 to park for one hour, but stay for three hours, they can only claim for two hours of lost revenue, which is £4.

DON'T PAY THESE CHARGES - THE ONUS IS ON THE COMPANY TO PROVE YOU CAUSED THEM £50-WORTH OF LOSS...

You can get a pro-forma letter etc plus lots of help to stop these cowboys at consumeractiongroup.co.uk

Just to clarify, all Tesco stores take these £5 off £30 spend for Morrisons, Somerfield etc. so long as they are in date. The barcodes DO NOT scan, the checkout operator has to manually apply the discount, most of them don't know how to do it, that is why some people get refused.
Stand your ground and insist they take them, you will get a supervisor who knows how to do it.
They don't usually openly advertise the fact they take competitors vouchers, hence the staff are unaware and untrained in the process.

Thanks for this, now I just need to remember to get the paper!

#31
thanks i was going to use sommerfield voucher there, but now that i know you can use it in tescos, i might by the two. I'll just see which is the cheapest paper
#32
They (Tesco) took my Somerfield voucher last night and also took a Waitrose one a couple of weeks back...... guy on checkout had never heard of Waitrose though and had to ask his Supervisor :D
#33
Our Tesco in Ipswich refused the morrisons vouchers last time the promotion was on - customer services agreed with the till staff that they were NOT accepting these vouchers when I queried it with them.
They will accept Sainsburys ones though - it seems to depend on how close the other store is to the Tesco store you are in as to whether they consider them a competitor!
And they now won't accept general vouchers (out of paper, magazines etc) unless you actually buy the product!
#34
Thnaks will make sure i get the paper tomorrow, heat added!!

Did you use a self service checkout to scan it ? I'd much rather use this in Tesco but avoid the hassle of looking stupid (they don't even know me!) :whistling:

Also - any clarification on what the voucher can be used on?

If they refuse to take them there's nothing you can do apart from trying another branch.

You can use them on almost anything except petrol and tobacco
#39
can you use both vouchers together and get £10 off a £30 spend:P?
