D&A don't exist any more - they merged with Boots so the voucher is valid for both.

They also do a free contact lense trial if you don't already wear lenses.

(guessing you'll get boots points as well? / obviously not needed in scotland where all eye tests are free!)

FREE eye tests at Tesco

on the previous offer, there was a post from someone who's sister went to Tesco, the missed early onset glaucoma and i think she had to have her eye out - they really don't have a good reputation.
Boots and D&A have really great reputations, for me, it's just that i'm not near a Tesco with an opticians...hope it helps someone x

I think wherever you go has this drawback, each chain is only as good as the specific individual who does the eye test, much as it is with Doctors too :-(

My girlfriend is an optician at Boots and although she tells me of the horrors of commercialism creeping into medical care, the stories she tells me of Boots are not as bad as those some of her friends at other chains have mentioned (particularly Asda / Tesco).

Polish guy goes for an eye test.

"Can you read the third line down?" says the optician.

Polish guy says "read it? - I know the bloke" .

hahaha very good joke BESFORD

I did this eye test and went to goggles4u.com, wearing my new specs now, around $13 delivered
#7
Wasn't this free at one point with D&A, and you also received 500 Nectar points?
#8
I had an eye test on this offer last month and my prescription was wrong. Had to have a (free) retest and waiting on my glasses to come back.

You mean to say that the eye test was not done correctly?

Yeah. The retest was more thorough.

My original prescription was not strong enough.

Scots get them free so I believe. Also ask your employer before going as some pay for free eye tests and glasses for you.
#12
Yes. free every 2 years in Scotland. If you use VDUs (pc monitors) I believe employers can assist with fees.

Its funny that the "horror" stories seem to come from high street opticians. Maybe they are worried about their livelihood. Its about time commercialism crept in to this rip off market. My last pair of glasses £15 @ tesco inc test. Specsavers prior to this £315. Difference none!
#14
Some of these cheapo or free eye tests are too rushed and brief. I had one at D&A a couple of years ago and it took less than 20 minutes. The optician said that he had about 15 to do that day all back to back and like a conveyor belt! You do get what you pay for with these sometimes.
#15
can you print this voucher and use it?
#16
i was wondering why this was on here too, as i live in scotland , like someone said we get free sight checks and if you work with screens all day youre employer should pay towards youre eye tests

You get free eye tests and excellent medical care and education system because English taxes subsidise it while we get rubbish overpriced versions of the same.

What a lot of utter nonsense ( utter pish btw)

usual brainwashed reply !

1,Yes we get free eye tests
2,Care is on par with Englad but we dont charge our pensioners etc
3,Education also on par but we dont charge our students for further education

Think you will find that we (Scotland) actually subsidise the rest of the UK ! Oil and Gas speak for themselves , also we have no water problems etc etc

Also this has been widely published now as Fact

Well I live in England and you could argue the south east of england subsidise the rest of us in the country but we all contribute in some way! Silly comment, try to think before you speak next time

As an English taxpayer I'd vote for Scottish independence any day (but then, Scots vote on English issues while we can'd vote on Scottish ones)! Nice people (mostly), wonderful country (when the weather co-operates) and it'll still be next door for visits but I too am tired of subsidising this socialist state which moans about the hand that feeds it. Eye tests are just a tiny part of it: uni fees, care homes, etc, etc. As for the oil (running out now) does that mean we should be paying for eye tests everywhere we get our oil from?

HSH - cheers, I'm overdue one by a few years...:|

I went in and they said you needed a voucher which you can print off from this link. It's valid until the 31st March.

Anyone else think that voucher looks well dodgy!?? The expiry date has clearly been photoshopped on! lol

The thread says the expiry is 31/12 but they didn't mention that instore

Having an eye removed due to Glaucoma is very rare and would only be done in late stage Glaucoma (10 years+). It is not Tescos's fault rather the individual optometrist who conducted the eye test. Many of the top chains employ locums who work for different chains and not just solely situated at one place
#29
They accepted the voucher, I don't think they scanned the barcode or anything though so it might have just been staff discretion about what looked okay.
#30
Good find! Thanks man :-) (Heat added)

used this today - should have been £20
worked and got it for £5
however, the staff admitted they didnt know how to use the equipment, and the optician rushed me through so quickly i was convinced she didnt check me properly,
she was twizzling the batton and going clearer/sharper/same so fast between the different lenses i couldnt tell what was going on,

left feeling very dissatisfied, and needing another test - will go elsewhwere from now on,
may be cheap, but not good service
