I've posted a headline deal because I think it is great value, but more than anything I just wanted to raise awareness for a great value, extremely professional site.

The deal is for 50 of their 'surplus' plants in any given week at £5.95 + £3.45 postage which they charge regardless of order size for any number of aquarium plants.

I bought this 50 plant surplus, plus a '48" collection' which is a set of 140+ plants chosen in tall, mid, low growth and floaters specifically to decorate a large 4 foot tank (48 inch.)

I actually received over 200 plants - ALL (inc the 50 surplus) chosen to match compliment each other, in good time and perfect condition, with food and weights thrown in for good measure.

To put this in context of PRICE, my local pets at home charges £3.00 PER PLANT or £7.50 for three and the variety is MUCH smaller than those I received from Plants Alive.

Absolutely cracking value for money and something that no aquarist should be unaware of. This site allowed me to plant my tank beautifully in a way which I never could by visiting my local stores - a fully planted tank can cost £££'s.

Thanks, hope fellow fishkeepers love this deal and hope anyone else can at least see that it is HOT!!

Regards
Matt

Not sure why, but the link won't work for me from the 'DEAL' button, so I have posted it below:

http://www.plantsalive.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=104

If a mod can sort, I would be grateful.

Thanks

that is a bargain!

i have a 60L tank so 50 plants would pretty much fill it lol

This is MEGA! Other half has a bigger tank on his wishlist but the cost of filling it with plants is putting me off saying yes, especially as two of our fish literally devour the plants in days. No gentle nibbling in our tank.We have had to resort to the plastic/fake ones to curb the costs. This will make him sooo happy, cheers!

Nice find

No problem guys.

I really could not believe my eyes when I read about this site. Everything to do with fish so far has been expensive - I am up to £700 ish on my new tank with no fish yet, but without Plants Alive I would be onto more like £900 I reckon.

Insane. Oh, note that with surplus plants, you are better buying multiple blocks of 50 than one block of 100 for example. I dunno if that is a mistake or if they are on a deal right now, but either way I was well impressed by the way that they had actually ordered the surplus... I got like 10 different types of plant!

PS - note the delivery times. They only dispatch once a week, but it seems a well oiled machine to me. Posting day is Thursday IIRC. Or perhaps they ORDER your plants on Thursday... umm, not sure, but check the small print on the despatch page.

HI couple of questions i am either blind or completely stupid are these plants for a aquariam and can these be used in ponds and what does it mean by surplus ?
#7
Seems a massive bargain, not going for the cheapies though as it seems a couple of quid more to get a complimentary set.

I have a 60cm cube tank, but 66 plants seems excessive, is it?

Aquarium normally means the indoor fish tank you see at the dentist/doctors. Chances are they wouldn't survive in a pond (which is what I have) and surplus is self explanatory.

Fair enough thanks :D wouldn't really be suitable for my 60cm by 30cm fishtank :L :L

when it says 66 plants this means a stalk counts as one plant, so it may seem a lot after you bunch 2/3/4 stalks together, wrap a lead weight around them there isnt as many as expected, but still a really decent price!

I ordered from here a few years ago and I was always pleasently suprised with quality.

50 is loads...we have a 180L tank (Fluval Vicenza 180) and have 11 in currently which is adequate. We have 34 fish in there (3 discus are my faves).

Aquariums are fun, as long as you stay on top of maintenance etc.

We have spent a lot so far, but worth it. Already thinking of tank 2.

is the website not responding for anyone else? thanks.

I have used this site many times and agree with earlier comments that the quality is very good.

But, each strand of young plant is deemed to be one plant and my most recent purchase of a collection to fill a 200ltr tank arrived in a box about 1/3 the size of a small shoes box. To compare to the more mature bunches in small pots at £3 a go from your local supplier such as Pets at Home is misleading.

This offer is always available. It's not a special offer and no better or worse than those offered by other reputable online sellers.

Woot - I am rather happy that you guys are enjoying this deal!!!

Questions wise - they are aquatic plants, but pond plants seem well priced too. The only 'expensive' stuff is IMHO the plants growing on rocks or bridges etc.

As someone else said, the 'plants' are either one stalk or small 'shrub' type plants, so it's not quite as black and white as it seems. All that said, you're still getting much more than you would at a pet shop.

As for how heavily planted you want your plant - well many people have just one or two plants and the aquarium is happy. The more plants you have, the more trouble you will get with some types of fish, but then again you will also open yourself up to a lot of interesting varieties that like to hang in them.

Once grown, I hope to have a full height curtain around the rear and sides of my 4ft Vicenza 260 and then some mid and low level plants around stones or other features.

Careful Matt,

considering there's no 'hot deal' to be had here your over enthusiastic support of this website smells a little of nothing more than a promotional effort.

Bummer, yeah I guess it can read that way.

Well sorry about that...

Alot of did sound a little like over marketing but I think he should definately be given the benifit of the doubt as hes been a member for almost 4 years and has never posted a deal from this site before!

IMO it is a "hot deal", as long as the product is as good as the reviews are making it out. Flamin turtle costs me a fortune so I'm really hoping this works out! Cheers again Matt.

Thanks Jay.

I totally understand where Tinhead is coming from. It's a shame people abuse systems like this so often that it rouses suspicion, that's life though.

If anything, I'm incredibly excited about my new tank....

Cheers

There are similar deals to be had on e-bay, but I suppose it's hard to compare. It would help if you posted a picture of the plants or an itemised list.

Oddly enough, the surplus listed in the deal is a random selection, so a list wouldn't help because you would get something totally different to me.

The collections by tank size 18' 36' 48' etc are all fully itemised on the website. You're welcome to use your eyes and reading skills should you so desire.

I know it's a random selection but it would at least give an idea of the types of plants you'd get. I've bought similar "random" plant bundles off e-bay and ended up with a load of boring plants clearly just put in there to make up the numbers (Bacopa monnieri is a common one) and plants that haven't even been grown underwater.

And never mind inviting me to use my eyes and reading skills "should [I] so desire". This is your deal and you posted it with an eyebrow-raising degree of enthusiasm - now you're saying you can't even be bothered to copy and paste the list of plants for us?! As it happens, I was finding it difficult to load the site in question.

And you don't have to sign-off all your posts, "Matt". Nobody knows who "Matt" is and nobody cares. It just makes you sound like you have an exaggerated idea of your own importance.

They don't supply a list of what they're going to send you for him to copy and past and matt is unable to work out what they've sent.

It's nothing more than a small bag of unwanted plants they want to ditch to those too tight to spend a couple of quid more on a balanced collection for a given size of aquarium.

Top paragraph true, bottom half in some cases for sure.

What I appear to have received is just a massive lot of plants on top of the 'actual' selection I bought.

I'm well happy in any case.

Matt

You're best to pay a couple more quid like me and get a better selection of plants, I'll let you know when they arrive. Bought 6 plants for a fiver from my local shop a while ago, so will see how these conpare
#29
That's a bummer mate.... I got well in excess of what I ordered!!!

You could try the aftersales service to see just how worthwhile this company is? They reckon even Surplus Stock must be fit for sending....
