Don't forget 4% quidco.

As long as they don't put the price up - I might get the Acer Aspire One Netbook (£189) -less £7 quidco, £25 credit brings it to around £160....

It's not really money off if they give you credit at their own store!

Hi all. I'm on the lookout for a laptop for Uni. Could anyone advise on any of those on this page:

http://www.cdiscount.co.uk/Computing/LaptopsNetbooks/Laptops/l-613.html

I could spend up to £350 (after the £50 credit, so £400) at a BIG push but the cheaper the better. I figured I'd want at least 2gb RAM. I know what kind of spec I'm after but don't know anything about the reputation of makes and models as I've never been a laptop user before.

Thanks guys.

The Acer Aspire one can be upgraded to 1.5gb, although it's a little tricky as it involves removing the keyboard. There are video guides available online. For basic internet browsing netbooks are fine, but I would recommend you go try out one in the flesh to see what you think. If you don't need such a small machine, I would otherwise recommend spending a bit more on a regular laptop.

thats pants in that case

What exactly do they mean by "credited to your account by the end of March" in regards the £50 credit, the account of your debit/credit card? your cdiscount account so maybe the 2nd or 3rd payment would be reduced? or is it just a voucher to spend with them? Has anyone used them with an offer like this before?
#16
I've seen Cdiscount on here loads of times but have never bought from them. Can anyone let me know if they're reliable etc...?

It is, and it isn't. They have other product ranges such as clothes, furniture, etc... and have good deals on those periodically, so if you don't have any need for computer bits you can see what they have there.

I got a voucher at end of Jan for a laptop i bought. In your account (separate from the finance deal), you will get a voucher code for the value (£50 in this case) so that when you make a purchase later, you enter that in and it reduces the final total.

cant find many good quality laptops in the site... :(
#21
Yes they are very reliable, |I have used them several times, delivery in about 3 - 4 days.
The credit is applied to your account at the end of the month in the form of a voucher code which you can redeem against another purchase. I think you have 12 months to redeem it. If you intend making another purchase then it is a good deal.

Thanks. Great deal!

These deals from cdiscount are great as the prices are pretty much the best/not far of. So the extra credit is great deal.

Those looking for a good laptop

http://www.cdiscount.co.uk/Computing/LaptopsNetbooks/Laptops/f-613-179464.html

4gb of ram
2ghz core 2 duo
15" Widescreen
ati 3470mobility
250gb hard drive

all for £400 ( then £50 credit and £11 ish quidco)

Making this laptop £339.... what a bargain. Been looking for a laptop to tide me over till my uni year is over.... this will do nicely.

Dont forget quidco! 4% on hardware

Just be glad you only need it for a few months, anything more and you'd truely regret the decision ;)

Also, from experience of just leaving a big national UK chain which sold Acer laptops, a fair percentage require BIOS updates out of the box to avoid random crashes, screen issues etc...

You reckon i should cancel my order?

Currently using a 3 yr old Acer 7005LMI notebook with 2ghz dothan and an ati 9700 mobile with 2 gb of ram as you can imagine cost me a fair old bit at the time....

Need a more powerful cpu and gfx card for programming on my uni course.....

stop worrying...... all laptops need to be kept up-to-date; be it bios updates or whatever..... i have had my acer for nearly 6 years it has alot of features that todays laptops have. these laptops are of good quality. The only downside is vista :w00t:. i have got this laptop for the other half who is in the progress of reading into her PHD. she has office 2007, dragon naturally speaking, microsoft.net, Macromedia family and Adobe Family running on it. As a lot of people may be aware that microsoft.net is resource hungry. So far no problems and be happy with your purchase. What other laptops have you come across for £339 that has 4gb of ram, standalone graphics card etc etc etc.....
Overall what im trying to say is keep it........

Well thats my point... anything that even comes close costs £570++....My plan was to wipe it and stick xp on it anyway, my last 4 vista installs never agreed with me... slow bootups, slower games, bad media... ive given up with it now... Vista is a total waste of time. I guess ill just have to be careful with backups.

Hope i can find all the appropriate XP drivers.

For what it's worth I bought the Tosh A200 1YO last week and very happy with the laptop and the service from Cdiscount (shame I was a bit too early for this offer).

Found a good free bit of software that not only checks upgrades for your drivers but also enables you to download the drivers for free (most programmes give you a free driver check but then want your money to do a download). This is a reasonably cheap and cheerful way of getting the best out of your existing components.

not to worry you can download the drivers from acer or before you wipe the system, run an application called driver magic which makes backups of all the drivers installed so you have them to hand....... But i have a funny feeling that with xp you may not be able to harness the complete 4gb of memory, it will be limited to 3gb. I love xp and server 2003; vista never tickled my taste buds but if it keeps the o/h happy then im doing something right....lol......
p.s have you ever tried to install linux and use that? amazing operating system
