This will be a fantastic TV if you watch from the other side of a smoky pub, but watching it close up in your lounge with 1024x768 resolution is going to be awful (unless you have a 40' lounge of course).

Sorry 50 inch at £930 sounds like a bargain to me as cheapest 1366 resolution is £1308.28 = mine is a FULL £378.28 CHEAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a good deal if anyone is after a cheap 50". No point going on about quality this and that, if you want top quality it will cost a lot more than this! Heat and Rep added! :)

YOu can have a top quality 55" for £1300 delivered, with 10k contrast, and 1080p to boot:

Go for quidco for £45 cashback.

55" is a rear projection TV BTW

If you're buying over 40 inches you really should go for the full HD spec - 1080p as the quality difference between 720p and 1080p is noticable on that size of screen.

Still a very good price though

I'd say the borderline was more like 50" for 1080p tbh, although viewing distance is the key thing. My two sets are the Sagem 45" 720p and the Sony 55" 1080p above, and at 9/10 feet you really don't get any benefit from 1080p whatsoever. It's only really 8 feet minimum, 7 feet ideally you see the extra detail - and that's only when the source is HD-DVD, or BBC HD. If you're watching a DVD or normal TV, there's no benefit whatsoever.

At 40" I'd suspect you'd need to sit 5/6 feet away to see the extra detail of 1080p, which is a bit impractical in most lounges. In that size bracket, personally I'd advise going for a good 720p plasma (eg TH42px60) rather than a 1080p LCD. Of course, if you can stretch to £1250, don't mind the huge screen dominating your lounge (55" is pretty much double the screen size of a 40"), and aren't bothered by a set 50cm deep rather than 10cm (remember the set is 130cm wide or so, and the backs slopes inwards so it's not very visible), then the Sony is a good bit better than either - much bigger, the contrast of the plasma, the detail of the 1080p LCD.

Good price for a 50" plasma so voted hot but the specs are awfull for a 50" and it is an unknown brand, so personally I would stear well clear, just do a google search for the problems people have had with cheap Tiny or Aldi plasmas!
