Sad to see them go but administrators at Woolworths say that all 807 stores will close by 5 January. Keep your eyes open for the new stock arriving soon

The BBC Website says: "Mr Kahn added that an extra 50 million items would be delivered to Woolworths stores and bigger discounts - some of more than 60% - would be offered to shift stock.
Shop windows will also display a countdown showing how many days were left before the store closed,

To be honest though Woolies has hardly impressed me with their recent 'closing down sale'. I hate all this 'up to' nonsense. Let's just reduce everything!
#2
My mate just delivered 12 boxes of JML stuff to my local store.
#3
:) that will be the 50million items that they have just bought off poundlands excess stock pile!
#4
I haven't seen a good deal in there yet. You should all try a website called HotUkDeals.com, they have some cracking deals on that site :-D
#5
Lets face it, none of the decent stuff like entertainment will be reduced much more than the current 10%. My guess is that any dvd's, cd's and games they don't shift in store will then be used to help the likes of Zavvi etc.
#6
I was in the Preston store last week, it was a horrible sight. There was stuff all over the floor, hardly anything was 50% off, more like 10 & 20%.

haha my hubby says that..when we went in and saw their clothes on racks like a jumble sale..hubby was like looks like they selling cack from tkmaxx!!

Wondered why a huge Woolworths lorry was at our local last night - I thought maybe they were packing up!
#10
Only time worthwhile to look might be the last day, or last few hours when they realise that knocking £5 off a £40 game isn't going to shift it.

Yes there's more to the shop than entertainment, but that's what a lot of us look for from bargains - I don't really need a new toaster or tea towel personally... Half price pick n mix might tempt me, but otherwise :P
#11
Hands up who's really sick of hearing about Woolworths...

they wont knock money off dvds and games tho, because they would go back to the suppliers.

Highly unlikely, the adminstrators are only intertested in money and since Zavvi already owe them about 100 million they will be looking to get the money from them not increase the debt further ;)
#17
IT WILL BE AN EXTRA 10% TO START WITH

so 20% off all entertainment and sweets
30% on all home, toys, kids stationary
40% off all adult stationary, all clothing
50% off all partyware and bikes / xmas stuff
60% off all greetings cards, schoolwear and gifts

and it will go on stores are closing in stages over 8 days

"40% off all adult stationary, all clothing"

Like those pens with the lady in a dress when you turn upside down her clothes melt off? Awesome! :D
#19
Our local Woolies shut down on Sunday. Anything worth having had disappeared from the shop so there were no 'last minute clearance' giveaways. I suspect it will be the same when other stores close as well.

Fair point. I think entertainment is the 1 thing that would bring a massive footfall should they reduce it enough. 10 / 20% just isn't enough if they want to shift it. They need 30% plus reductions

they dont there is hardly anything left in most stores anyway

once it hits 20 tomorrow 1/2 will go, then the rest once it hits 30 - staff will get it anyway they deserve something
#22
Woolworths deals are the best, overpriced items at 10% discount makes a cracking deal.

e.g Haze PS3 £20 - 10% makes it £18, probably only second to littlewoods price!

That would make it 80% more than most retailers even after the massive 10% discount. And saw loads of "deals" like that instore.

No wonder it went bust, shoddy prices, aweful stores etc. I do however feel sympathy for the staff.

Can we have a translation of this in English please?

As well as some cracking deals HUKD also has some cracking language manglers too. I presume some people never read what they've written before they click Submit. At least I hope they don't! :)

You might just as well find out when your particular store is closing down, and go very early on the last day.
Saves a lot of disappointment!

Hhhmmm I beg to differ about the stores. The ones I have been in have empty shelves but there's still about 60% or so shelf space still occupied. The items that went were the cheapo value stuff/own brand and xmas items which needed to be discounted heavily seeing as they couldn't be sent back.

I still wouldn't buy a cd / dvd / game from Woolworths with 20% or even 30% off because everywhere else is still cheaper. That's the main reason why they got into this mess in the first place, for being uncompetitive.

Our local Woolworths has been there forever. All the staff are locals, and you get to know them over the years. It surely can't ONLY be me, that won't go their closing down sale, and take advantage here. The thought of handing over bargains that you are only getting because the staff will be out of a job shortly, means I couldn't do it.

Good luck to all those people, what a time of year to be made redundant. I wish them all the best in finding new employment.

Yes i agree, although its a bit of a catch 22, do you go and buy what they have, in the hope maybe they will get a small xmas bonus... or not go and miss out, plus they will have to stay working there until maybe the stock all goes... but i do agree, its a shocking time to be made redundant.. and 27,000 people.... well i wish them all the best in finding employement.. its a shame, i remember woolies when i was a wee boy!!!

The faster all the stock sells out, the sooner they get to go home, they're getting statutory redundancy pay not paid by the hour so the sooner the stores close the better. So by taking advantage you're actually doing them a favour.
