• 50% off a MOT
• £79 for a Interim Service
• £99 for a Interim Service + MOT

Product Price Saving
MOT £27.42 £27.43
Interim Service from £79.00 £30.00
Interim Service (+ MOT) from £99.00 £46.00

Book online below knowing that we provide the following as standard:

• Trust - 95% of customers tell us they'd recommend us to a friend*
• Expertise - more ATA trained technicians than anyone else in the UK
• Price Guarantee - we'll match any price quoted like for like*
• Quality Guarantee - all work has a guarantee of 12 months or 12,000 miles*

I don't know how good these guys are so I can't comment on the quality of the work. However, if they try and get you to have stuff done which isn't necessary or that you don't want (which I imagine will be some of the negative comments on here based on other mainstream repairers), just say no! Simples!

EDIT - I adjusted the table to show the prices correctly but hasn't worked! Sorry!

Reasonable price, so good find by op, but this was put on a few weeks ago and received many comments and cold votes regarding the service you get at Halfords - basically they find unwarranted faults and try to help lighten your wallet for you, and more so than other garages :-(

Best advice is to follow the Moneysavingexpert advise and head to your local council run MOT station, as they have no vested interest in failing a vehicle.

Sorry, couldn't find it when I did a search. I don't really understand why so many people cry about the garages - if they try to get you to do unwanted work then just don't have it done. It's not hard to say no

pay £27 and walk away coz they failed it on a silly reason.. like lights/tyres/wipers/exhaust not aligned proper?

So then you pay £27.42 and no MoT!

No I'm not saying that! I on about the stuff they think you should have done once it has passed the MOT! The kinda things that aren't necessary! If you don't agree with what they say, get a second opinion. You really think I would suggest pay nearly £30 then walk away because it fails?

Yes, I'm saying walk away because it failed on wipers! hahahahahaha!!!

My car sailed through in Kettering store 2 weeks ago, they couldn't have been more pleasant and honest. Not all garages are dishonest and out to screw you!!!

Positive experience here as well (Romford) - they took over the old Nationwide Auto Centres where I was well looked after too. I'm sure it varies by branch/franchise - a bit like a KFC.
#8
No problems in central Bristol either, passed with no issues at all. Certainly can't complain.
No pushy selling tactics either.

Always found nationwide to be great.

Please check the smallprint on these deals- we put our car in for an MOT when it was the old nationwide Autocentres, as they were offering half price MOT's. It failed and they quoted us £100 to fix it. My husband wasn't happy with their explanation of what the failure was, and wanted to take it to our local garage for our regular mechanic to do the work. they said if we did that they would then charge us a retest fee (approx £27 again), so we would then be paying full price for an MOT. Our local mechanic was suspicious, shall we say, of the part we had been failed on- we complained but never got anywhere, and had to pay the retest fee, so that's it for us, we shall never be using them again. So much for trying to save money and get a Bargain... now we go to a local MOT centre where we have to pay full price for MOT, but no retest fee if it fails.

Similar issue here. They failed me for a few things, fair enough, and when I went for a retest they wanted the full price of a test costing £54. When I said I would go elsewhere the dropped the price to £27.

One of the failures on the car was one of my headlights beig low. Not being a pro lifted up the bonnet and using an allen key matched the light which was low to the one that was the correct height. I took the car back for a retest and everything passed except the allignment on both lights! When I queried why one side was fine before and suddenly both sides are out. The manager told me that different testers pick up different things. They told me that they could adjust the allignment and pass it but wated £14 per light. If I took it away to do myself they wanted £27 to do another retest.

Definately won't be going here again. This was my experience in the Basingstoke branch but just giving everyone a heads up :).

No honest garage should fail you on headlight alignment unless the adjusters are siezed. With the beam setter on the car it takes less time to adjust the alignment than it does to have a conversation about it.
#13
I've just had my car done there. All fine except one headlight. I borrowed some tools and parked the car to one side fiddled with the light. The guy even brought the beam measurer over to my car when I was ready.
Then they just passed it. No extra fees.
My experience was ok. However while I was in there I look at their prices to services etc.. Absolutely ridiculous service charges. Seemed more expensive than dealer prices
#14
Been using the Basingstoke one for 3 years now with no problems. Like any MOT station, before you give it in, check the obvious stuff, bulbs, wipers, tyres and exhaust.
#15
I have taken 3 different cars to 3 different nationwide autocentres and paid with tesco vouchers - not failed once. And one was a P reg rover!
banned#16
best of a bad bunch if you ask me. Light years ahead of kwikfit.
#17
as with any garage I wouldn't go to one without finding out if its decent or not. I got recommended to one of these by the guy who does all my body/paintwork and was abit dubious but the service I have been given by them so far has been exceptional - not good - exceptional! BUT that doesn't mean I would recommend every single halfords auto centre 9the one I've used is the one in Burntwood btw)

at the end of the day these are mostly franchises so all depends on how the owner runs it, same as kwickfit etc. I asked about re-tests as I usually do my own work and he said within reason he was fine with it.

I've just had my car done at Halfords in Southampton...Everything fine, passed and only had to pay £27.42! Bargin

my friend they do not bother about old cars worth £200-300 google halfords MOT review and read thousands bad reviews all mostly good nearly new cars, and failures for Nr 1 headlight adjustment alignment to low to high aim. soft toy on your windscreen mirror etc
WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM

Had my car mot only, passed no problems, paid £27, well chuffed
#21
A branch failed my car as appparently a bracket was missing from the exhaust: rather than simply replace the bracket they wanted to charge hundreds of pounds for a new exhaust. I declined and took the car to be tested at a place which only did MOTs (they don't carry out any work) The car passed its mot even though it had failed the previous day. Like someone else said these guys run as a franchise so its pot luck finding a good one. Try and find a testing centre that does not undertake any work to the vehicle, or use the council ran test station.
