MOT due next month. Heat!

they'll probably go over your car looking for something else to fix to make up the money

Wouldn't use the one in sandhurst, they charged me 300 quid for work that didn't need doing, on the back of a half price mot. Got my money back. They also wanted 300 quid to fix an ABS problem on my brothers cars, a problem I fixed for free in 20 mins, which indicated they didn't even look at his car. There's more but that will do for now!

Thats shocking, hopefully the other branches around the UK arent as bad. I had a horror story like that from a local garage (*cough* Ellis Davis, Cumbria). They tried to charge me a fortune to do jobs on my car that didn't need doing. I took my car to somewhere else (a friend recommended) and only one fo the jobs needed doing compared to the list of 4 that Ellis Davis gave me. Ellis Davis wanted £400, the other garage only wanted £50.

I guess you just have to look out for the scammers out there in the garage world. Alot of my mates use Halfords for their MOT's and have never had a problem (Workington branch).

These Halfrauds garages also known as Nationwide Autocentres are worse than Kwikfit. http://www.halfordsautocentres.com/

Totally incompetant and they damage your car for you as they are clueless idiots.

Even if the MOT was free I would never go there ever again.

COLD

Halfords = Cowboys
Kwik Fit = Cowboys

I would never take my car to any of these fools ever again after what I experienced. I had my car insurance with AA so as a result I received a free MOT voucher with Kwikfit. I would just like to stress that this was the only reason I took it to a Kwik Fit garage. I never had any intentions of paying for repairs to be carried out. I was hoping that it would have just been a straight pass which would have been great as I wouldn't have even paid for the MOT. Free should have been changed to "Free but we will do our best to charge you for work you do not require". Anyway they told me that the car had failed and that I needed work done including brakes etc and the cost would be £486. As you can imagine I told them where to go and took my car to a small trusting garage. An MOT was carried out and the car also failed there. Only difference is it failed as it required a registration bulb which cost £5. To this day I still have no idea how they managed to charge me an extra £481. Absolutely shocking. Owning, driving and maintaining a car is expensive enough without people deliberately ripping you off. I would avoid this offer like the plague as my friend had a similar experience with them.

MOTMAX do MOT's for £37.50, and there's a £10 off voucher on there web site for some branches (Just used it in Lincoln) making it £27.50. It's free if your car fails and they don't do repairs so they're not gonna fail vehicles to get the work. Great if there's a branch in your area.

Not really a deal, it's been this price for some time.

stay away they tried to charge me £250 to change spark plugs and wires
#10
Charged me to have one of my lights pointing the right way. First MOT in a 1 series, very unlikely

total came up to £55, coincidence?

Failed me on front disks that they're replaced 4000miles earlier. Also for a number plate that had previously been fine. If you challenge them, they always appear to be able to do you a deal. The one in Glasgow is very shady

Failed my mates car on £850 worth of parts.
Front and rear pads and discs and rear caliper, bulbs and headlight height. Only the caliper was shot, nothing else!

Got a "voucher" with the mail for a "free" mot (insurance link?) and when drove in, they offered an extra discount (£99) for a full service wich I considered a fair price due to lack of time. I asked my wife to pick up the car and when she arrieved early they managaed to do the "full service"and MOT in just 30 minutes.. that should be a record! and present an invoice for £172 for the job done... a fail mot and wanted an extra £504 to remplace front discs and pads, plate, fix exhaust, !!
I could not sort out the situation over the phone, so I had to leave the job before time, paid a cab...
My car was 56 registration, with 12k on the clock.. first mot..
I asked to remplace the blades and to change a bulb. They even asked to change the redistration plate!
After a short words with the guy I just paid the £99 for the "full service" and put the car into the main dealer as the reason for the mot to fail was their original registration plate. Surprise for them as well, the dealer did the mot free and said was not necessary to change discs, just the pads... however I changed both at a fraction of the price (£275) even when the job was carried out at the dealer. They did a proper full service, the exhaust needed a new rubber support and the registration plate is still the same original one. Got the book stamped..

Are these centres franchises? If not maybe they are on some sort of commission scheme.
If not, the employees must either be incompetent or love taking the p"ss just to see how much they can get out of a customer.
I'm sure the majority are OK but it makes you think.

Odd - Post is about Nationwide Autocentres / re-branded as Halfords. Your moan is about KwikFit - you do not even mention NA/Halfords. Why give a poor response to a totally different retailer?
