I'm not defending them as I am not with Greenflag but with any break down company priority will be given to those in dangerous situations i.e. Motorways etc or lone females , young children on board etc.
All depends on your situation when you break down.

Still, 2.5hrs is ridiculous. Perhaps they are taking on more customers than they can manage to get to in a timely manner...

RAC easily took 5 hours when I was broken down in a car park, most likely as I was bottom of any priority list.
I would have thought 2.5 hours was very reasonable!!

Obviously unreasonable on a motorway / if you are blocking a road / medical condition, otherwise fine or even better than fine?

Sure if you were in a car park, you could have called a local garage or recovery company... I don't understand why anyone would pay for breakdown cover and think 5hrs wait is acceptable. Might actually be better off without cover and just ring round a couple of places if you do break down and see who can get to you quickest and cheapest.

Just had my RAC renewal through last week, £199.51. Green Flag comparison is £88. What has made me decide though is the RAC have added a £50 Arrangement and Administration fee!! Been a member for 16 years, not senile enough yet to fall for that one.

**UPDATE**: RAC Didn't want me to leave, but don't do price match with Green Flag, only AA. However, they reduced the price I pay now and added 3 months onto my membership which amounted to the same deal. So thank you OP and HUKD, saved money and kept RAC.

I'm certainly not going to call a local garage or recovery company when I want my car recovered to a main dealership and have already paid RAC for onward travel to anywhere within the U.K. If I break down in Scotland (even if somebody else's car), they will provide multiple options including bed&breakfast per person (up to £150/pp or £500/group), hire car, or alternative transport e.g. train/taxi (up to £150/pp or £500/group).

Knowing this is available wherever I am in the U.K. is fantastic.

And I'm fine knowing that every single person who is in a dangerous location broken down should be helped before me. On the other hand, if I break down on the motorway hard shoulder, I expect help to come well within the hour. And they'll take the car to the dealership / garage of my choosing which is unlikely to be the local one.

Overall this is a good deal, heat.

Out of interest, how much does that RAC cover cost you?

To be honest, I'm surprised people are still taking out cover when banks are chucking it into bundles and dealerships are giving it away with services.

Bought on Tesco Clubcard points. Can't remember to be honest with you, but it's currently listed as £90 worth of Clubcard points (9000 points). Admittedly these points were earned via TCB when it was easy to get 5000 points. This is a family policy so covers at least 4 of us in any car in the UK. Next year we will likely be with GreenFlag as the clubcard points have dried up since disappearing from TCB, presuming they stay cheaper than the rest.

true dat. Me and the wife are with Nationwide - £120 fees for the year gives us
UK and EU breakdown
travel insurance worldwide (claimed a camera stolen no probs, £50 excess)
Extended warranty (fixed laptop at 13 months)
Mobile Phone cover (dropped my lumia 925, they fixed screen, £25 excess)
Free cash withdrawals worldwide at current exchange rates
etcetc
Highly recommended (I'll refer anyone if they want to share the £100 each love)

I've not had to make a claim, fortunately, but reviews I've read have all been favourable.
The major difference between AutoAid and the likes of RAC/AA is the fact that you pay for the service you receive, then you claim it back from AutoAid. But otherwise you are getting a full monty pacage for less cost.

Just had my renewal notice for the next 12 months and I'll be taking it.
