These wouldnt work for xbox 360 games at all as you would require Dual Layer disk which these are not.

Would be good for movies and and stuff though

Providing you compress down DVD-9 to DVD-5 where necessary, yes.

I'm sure if you look around your local independent computer shops you'll find them pretty much the same price if not ten bob cheaper...i'm currently using a rather nice Verbatim dvd-r for a bargaintastic £7.99 from "Poundstretcher". :)

Hi Guys...what are your thoughts on good brands of discs?? Currently using Verbatim, previously Datawrite..have used many different ones in the past...not all too impressive.

I've used these for many many years and they do the job. No problems from me.
However I can't compare them with your brands as I've never used them before.

Can't seem to find much on the net regarding this, maybe I'm using the wrong search phrase.

Any links on a how to guide?

Couldn't agree more. I pay £7.50 for 50 unbranded, printable DVD-R at my local computer shop, and only burned one coaster in three years, a pretty amazing record. Added bonus is, I always leave the shop with these words in my ears, "If they're not ok, bring 'em back."

Fair do though, we don't all live close to shops.

I'll speak slowly, as requested.

I...didn't...say...they...still...worked...after...three...years...I...have...no...idea...and...don't...really...use...them...for...that...kind...of...purpose. I...simply...said...I...had...only...burned...one...coaster.
Hope...that...clears...up...any...confusion.

They are the ones I use right now for Wii back-ups- no coasters (yet!) I had to flash my bloody DVD burner to use them though

Ive used many types of dvd-r in the past, quite a few seem to fade after several months :( However the brands that havnt faded are ridisc, verbatim and taiyo yuden, You can get 100 taiyo yuden dvd-r's from bigpockets for £11.40 before delivery. All other dvd-r's I avoid as these are the 3 brands that havnt faded on me through time and are reliable. heres the link for the taiyo yudens, you can also get printable versions of them for about £12 100pack (usually cost a lot more from other sites) Hope this helps you out.

Taiyo Yuden Silver 8x

If your after software that will compress a standard dvd9 down to a normal 4.7gb dvd-r disc then you can try dvd shrink, its freeware so will not cost you anyrthing and will only take a very small amount of time to install and is easy to use.

It's just 'compress', not 'compress down'.

Well biffo do you use the same principle where photographs are concerned? as in the day you take photo and print it or develop it is there to look at but 3 years later like the cheapest receipt the information which makes up the picture has vanished. I suspect the answer is NO.

So what was the purpose of burning your so called disc's if you cannot or do not use them now ?

So whatever you were saying above or b4 was not important

What you on about :p

Fried eggs in the shape of discs no as they would still be fried eggs 3 years on.

anyways anyone comparing verbatim with some 50 blanks they get from dodgy Dave are not the same thing

your tempted to buy them aren't you.

Brand name meaningless go for dye and not faked ID

Buy Taiyo Yuden (genuine or Verbatim)( not the datasafe big pockets taiyo yuden floor reject rubbish)

TDK are not a good name brand, memorex Maxell are not a good named brand even SONY these do not manufacturer their own disc's they give that job to the cheapest TENDER like INFODISC, INFOSMART, OPTODISC, CMC. RITEK , PRODISC, BELL, MBI.

When you can get a Verbatim 50 pack for £7.99 there really is no excuse to buy anything else, stupidity is the only other recourse.

Like everything else it will be deaf or dumb

so the TY at bigpockets are no good?

so the TY at bigpockets are no good?

If they are datasafe not really*, if they are genuine TY ask yourself why are they so much cheaper why would TY let a cheapy brand name use their highest quality product and under cut themselves by a large margin (maybe that margin has narrowed a lot since I last spent £38 per 100 genuine TYG02)

*As long as you are not paying over the top for the datasafe ones and they are not faked and they burn / verify/ Pi-Po scan at around 88% or higher then they are ok
