Advertised in the Evening Standard tonight, Talk Mobile 30 day rolling sim contract with 25 minutes and 50 texts for £1 per month.

Calls and texts over the allowance not cheap at 31p / 12p, but may be ideal for some lowish useage users.

Do Not give this sim card to your Children ,unless you want Bankrupting !

Good info OP :)
#5
That's where they'll make their money then.
#6
I think that they will make their money from people who go into CW to buy a £1 sim only deal, and are then upsold to the higher priced deals.

This is a bargain opposed to Pay as you go!

If at Talk Mobile's normal rates (31p/min 12p/text) this has incredicle value!

50 texts (50x0.12) = £6 value
25 minutes (25x0.31) = £7.75 value

Total worth is £13.75 for £1 as opposed to pay as you go! Incredible!

The phones would probably need to be unlocked (how easy / hard depends on the type of phone), but yes you can transfer your number.
#19
So would this then work in a android vodafone locked phone ?
#20
am i right in thinking you can set the phones not to go over?
#21
Is it possible to add an internet add on to this SIM? Great that transferring the number also works!
#22
Lot of good deals but mostly without decent internet. e.g. 3 offers 2 GB for 5 pound but 0.26/min calling which is ridiculous...

Talk mobile offers 25 meg for 25p which is nonsense. very expensive...

I wouldn't have thought the data charges were cheap enough for an Android phone.

Yes totally agree. To use this one must be discipline like a monk to not go over the allowance.

Yes can be very good value if one can be discipline.....but if you lost your sim/phone then you are in deep trouble. Not for me this, but good for those who can keep within allowance.

Just for info, Talk Mobile "Essentials" (Pay as You Go) prices are 8p per minute for calls and 4p per text. Internet is 25p a day for 25Mb. So depending on your usage you may actually be better off on Pay as You Go with Talk Mobile.

The true value of this deal is:

25 minutes = 25 * 8p = £2
50 texts = 50 * 4p = £2
Total = £4

So you're saving £3 a month IF you can stay within the limits, otherwise spend just 10 minutes extra on the phone and you'll have paid more.

I know a few elderly people who have a mobile for "emergencies". This would be great for them as they'd never spend more than £1 a month, but I can't see how it is suitable for anyone else.

i know on other talkmobile tariffs you can put a call limit (dunno if it applies to this deal, as i have not been in today) on it but it does take a few hours after it going over the price limit to be blocked and yes you can keep your number but has to be ported at point of sale, cant be done later ever.

(i work for carphone warehouse who sell this deal aswell)

I get 800 minutes 3000 texts and 1gb of internet with Virgin Mobile for 8.50 a month,

These are priced at 26p per minute and 10p per text and 50p per 25mb, these priced at £528, so does that mean my contract has a value of £528.

That's nothing, I have unlimited texts, therefore my contract is valued at INFINITY.
#33
Good deal, but gotta wonder if the demand exists for such a contract. The sort of user its aimed at probably has a cheap PAYG phone and tops up once or twice a year. Generally they arent interested in a contract regardless of any potential saving ime.

The orange phone will need to be unlocked but they can keep their number just tell them to follow these instruction: http://www.portnumber.co.uk/transfer/mobile/from-Orange/to-Talkmobile

So is mine but restricted to 3000 fair usage

I just wish they'd operate a pay as you go system that they didn't disconnect after a period of time. I've been into a store a few times over the years after my number has been deactivated through lack of use. I only ever use it if we go on holiday or for emergencies, so even £1 a month is a waste for me.:p

Can't you just phone their freephone operator service periodically to check the balance, or else phone your own landline and not answer it? That seems to work with my old mum's Vodaphone PAYG to keep it active. Her usage is precisely as you describe your own.
