At least you know what you are getting with lard. fats fat!
Will be stocking the freezer up some, you cant beat lard for pastry and bread making. Also great on bread with salt on when theres no dripping about ;-)

on a more serious note, Tesco lard is the same price at 28p for 250g, just in case you cant use the whole 500g.

and before you start, I buy it to make fat balls to feed the birds in winter, add a bit of stale bread etc, a lot cheaper than buying pre made ones.

Great I have been looking for some cheap lard to make fat balls for the birds, will be stocking up to keep them well fed through the winter lol :thumbsup:

I make fat balls for the birds in the winter using lard and mixed bird seed. The easiest way I figured out was to mix up the melted lard/seed in a saucepan, let it cool for a bit and then spoon into small plastic plant pots, each with a loop of string from the top of the pot and through the drain holes in the bottom. Quick and easy to do and hang from the trees. The birds also then have somewhere to perch on as the feed.
