It isn't a PCI card, it's a backplate adapter with a cable to plug into your motherboard's spare SATA ports and therefore your motherboard must already support SATA.

A PCI card would allow PATA (i.e. IDE) motherboards to use this as well but the supplied adapter won't.

Yes, perhaps I should have phrased it more carfully. It's a SATA socket mounted in a pci backplate.

Looks like a pretty good deal but anyone know what hard drive (brand/model) is in there?

seems a really good deal, tesco are doing what appears to be same kit for £147.00 (did temporarily drop to circa £129 around Xmas).

hopefully the drive inside the box is SATA so that you will realise the full speeds when using the E-SATA cable.

Pity you can't daisychain E-SATA drives as with Firewire or can you?
