Or alternatively a 2.5 inch 500gb Medion branded (unsure of what drive is inside) currently being sold in my local (Ilkeston) Aldi for £54.99 with 3 year warranty. Link - http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2827_12294.htm
not sure whether this ACTUAL model is the cheapest it can be had for...

But in my opinion is a waste of time when you can get double the space with a 1TB for less than £10 more and also spins faster at 7,200rpm

DannyB the model you posted is for a 3.5 inch external drive whereas this post is for a way more portable USB powered hard disk. Suppose it depends on what peoples portability requirements are.

Every post about a 2.5" drive leads to at least one idiot stating that s/he has found a cheaper 3.5". Wake up and smell the coffee. Indeed a Ford Fiesta is cheaper than than a Ford Galaxy but just because they are both Fords doesn´t mean they are the same...

Well I always remember it being over £25, must have changed within the last couple of months then. I guess to many idiots were taking the p*** and scan must have got quite feed-up :whistling:

Thread title has been amended accordingly!

PS - I bought the hitachi portable 500gb from tesco for £60.
That is not cheap because most ppl have to pay postage on top. Currys charges £56 for the Iomega 2.5/500 Prestige.
Average price, unfortunately Freecom drives have a tendency to draw more than 500mA and may require a USB Y cable to negate the extra power draw. A disclaimer is on the box in the usual extra small writing and you can claim a free psu phoning support.
