ofcourse it's a good deal, but the good deal isn't the hard drive, it's the £10 coupon which is making it a good deal and that has already been posted

I know, but if I were in the market for an ext HDD this would catch my eye, a post for a voucher might not  casual site users will benefit from these threads imho. :)

From GBATemp
I had this problem with my Maxtor Basics 500GB drive. By default it would go into sleep mode after 15 minutes. So if i decided to pause for 15+ minutes it would just freeze at the next loading part in game.

I was able to fix this using a tool called "Maxtor Manager" which can be found here:
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=ot4-lite&vgnextoid=e621783de3444110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD

I know it says it's for OneTouch blabla, but it worked fine with my Maxtor Basics drive anyway. Just change sleep to "Never" i settings.
Most drives out there probably have some similar tools, just look it up.

Looks like you just need to use Maxtor Manager and it'll work perfectly

Totally agree its a good deal and if it wasn't mentioned no one would see it, as you point out ocassional user's of this site etc and i'm glad people take the time to put these deals on in the first place, there's no helping some people is there?

I'm looking for an internal 500GB so £40 for a 500GB internal seems a good deal, how hard are these to get out of the case? I assume it's a sata drive inside....

EDIT: Just noticed post #16... think i'll give it a miss ;-)
#18
great find. Its all well and good knowing about the £10 voucher but actually finding great ways to use it is the name of the game, cheers for posting. Heat added.

just wont people to know i ORDERED a smiliar hard drive off these they took my money on the 22nd of april and im still waiting for my hard drive BAD customer service aswell

I got one of these when i bought my tv back in the Cdiscount easter sale. Used the £120 credit that they were offering at the time.

No problems with it and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Also had no problems with Cdiscount regarding delivery despite the horror stories i had read on here previously.

My hubby is a self employed Computer Engineer chappie and said that he's had nothing but problems with these drives.....the ones he's had to 'rescue' peoples data were fitted with Seagate drives and the PCB boards have all failed.....just giving our experiences....hope it may help!

This gentleman is the actual owner of the website , please respect his views and wishes.

The foundation of this deal anarchy is our belief that consumers want an honest, unbiased and free tool to exchange information and tips, except when Zootaga says so.

lol i quite like the woman underweals deals as long as they have pics :whistling:

That website never seems to open up when I've tried it, today or sometimes in the past, I'm not sure why.

Even though this is a decent voucher, is anybody else sick of seeing these Cdiscount 'deals' when sites like Ebuyer have been banned for "self promotion". These Cdiscount deals sure do whiff of self-promotion themselves.............. :whistling:

Not really. Would you like the entire CDiscount catalouge posted just to highlight a £10 voucher code?

I'm sure if the whole Cdiscount catalogue was actually posted it'd probably get turned a blind eye the way things are going..........:whistling:

Agreed it's getting daft. Endless deals posted throughout every week and often people are finding within minutes of the deal going up stock has apparently depleted yet CDiscount gets some nice free advertising.

Not to mention CDiscount have an account here they are quite aware of the coverage..

I bought this external a few months ago for £20 from Sainsbury's as many others did aswell. My laptop charger fitted the socket to this, so instead of opening the new charger it came with, i slotted the laptop charger in. I saw it spark and after that the computer didnt pick it up, no matter what i did. I think i fried the PCB. I returned to seagate, they sent out replacement the same day, and with a 32mb cache drive too. But its been fine since. I would recommend this drive just for movie backups etc, not anything important, unless its a second backup.

why would you not recommend it for anything important? Because you fried the first one by plugging in the wrong power supply?

These drives need a firmware update or else you risk the drive failing !!!

See my posts in this thread for the details and photo's of how to take the drive enclosure apart :

Because there have been allot of people that have complained about the drives that they contain, the amount of RMA and the issues regarding dodgy firmwares on these drives etc.

I got one of these for £20 from the Tesco deal a while back, haven't applied the firmware update and haven't had any problems so far, but in saying that I hope I don't jynx it. Wouldn't keep precious data on it though just to be safe.
