If this isn't a real deal, it's a bit naughty, as it's part of their daily email, not just tucked away in a random corner of their website. Order now for christmas (question is, 2008 or 2009?) It's "normally in stock" whatever that implies...

It's a 2.5" drive which should be priced above £75.

Or is it? Description misleading.

It's a 3.5", the description is for an entirely different model. To be expected from that company really.

34169 is the 2.5" version.

That link's for a Desktop (mains powered) Hard drive, the OP is listing a portable 500gb, most portable hard drives are about £45-50 for 250gb, so double the capacity for the same price seems a bargain.

EDIT - I must learn to type faster, also noticed the errors in description.
#5
if it's usb powered then it must be a 2.5" drive, which would be really cheap. does anyone know what type of drive is in this model? is it a 9mm standard laptop size or 12mm like the hitachis?
#6
As above, I won't be ordering as I'd probably end up with a 500 floppies. :giggle:

Has anyone used Eclipse then?...in the sense of ordering something and actually getting the goods? :whistling:

Oh yes - over 10 years ago. Never again. Getting the goods is not the major problem. It's when the goods are either faulty or not what you ordered that the fun starts. I'm just amazed it is still in business when better companies have gone to the wall.
#18
I've ordered it for "local delivery", so I'm going to open it in front of the driver, and ask why it comes with a power supply and isn't the item pictured if they are playing silly beggars. It's actually in their regular deals email, that you sign up for when you attempt to purchase other items from their site - false advertising and trade descriptions anyone?

Well not really, The website quite clearly states that it is a desktop hard drive and it comes with a power adaptor. Yes there email might have stated it was portable hard drive but i am sure they can just claim that was a typo. Persoanally i would neve use them any way they just seem a bit of a **** company, Heard many a horror story of delieveries taking ages, being sent wrong products, customer services that just do not care. If people want a cheap iomega 500gb hard drive just stick to the one on sale at comet that has already been posted in this thread.
#20
See they've updated the website then.

High 5 to those that didn't get suckered
#21
As above, so below - they have changed their website since I placed the order, without so much as sending an email to that effect. (Believe it or not, I'm not completely stupid) My order is still for a portable one, which doubtless won't show up....

I've just been having an interesting chat with a colleague who has ordered something that is "normally in stock" in time for christmas and who has just sent them a snotty email due to it not actually being in stock (and the website STILL saying normally in stock after several days of email swapping!)

Is the one on sale at comet a portable one then???? Didn't look like it...

Hope you did not think that i was calling you stupid as i was not at all, Eclispe computers seem a bit dodgy to me, there are countless bad reviews on them if you look through google. and if you remember it was not so long ago that they sold 500gb hard drives for £5 and then claimed it was a misprice so did not honour it and then mispriced them again the next night and again did not honour the price, Just seem like a bit of dodgy comapny to me.

The comet iomega hard drive is not portable hard drive (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/294236/iomega-3-5inch-500gb-desktop-hard-d/) and if you want a 500gb portable hard drive expect to pay quite a lot more than 50 quid.

If your order is for a portable hard drive and a desktop hard drive shows up then you are well with in your rights under the sales of good act to return and get a full refund as the item was not as described but again i have heard that eclipse make it very hard to get your money back
#23
Not too concerned:

(a) I'm aware of my rights
(b) I live less than 2 miles from their store / head office
(c) I paid by credit card

I agree that they deserve some more bad publicity - and to think this morning I thought this was a genuinely good offer (and not a ridiculous misprice like the last one from them)

Why would that be important? Think you should go back and check (a);-)

why you need a screen (shot) ??

Just as backup. Customer services are complete and utter liars - outright. I'll contact my credit card company tomorrow when the offices are open.

I ordered before all the replies came in.

well i assume that you are going to try and return the product for a full refund and in which case you need no evidence what so ever as you are covered by something called the distant selling regualtion which states that you are entitled to cancel then contract you have entered by buying the product with in 7 working days of the good being recieved. take a look at the following website for some more info http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38102.html

cant say i have ever heard a good thing about them

NEVER EVER give your real email address to eclipse-computer.co.uk. They will flood your account with endless spam under 100s of different pseudonyms (i.e. directtv.co.uk, appliancesdirect.co.uk, LaptopsDirect.co.uk, mallplace.com, and many more). Adress starts with Anna.James at the moment but this changes periodically. It's an awful company. Never contact them by email or give them your contact details. It's best to completely stay away from them. If you have to contact them, use a disposable email adress.

You sure that it is eclipse that has done this, as despite the fact i do not like the company they do have my email address and i think that i have been emailed by them 2 or 3 times in the last 2 months and i have not recieved any spam from them or any other company that you have mentioned.

I do not believe eclipse is linked to any of the other companies that you have mentioned as i believe they are a independent retailer based in coventry and if they have passed on your email address with out your permission (ie you ticked the box to say they could not do this) then that would be against data protection act laws, so would leave them open to a nice fine so i doubt they have done that either.
