I posted this a few days ago priced at 53.99 but thanks to Zathras for pointing out its been reduced. The deal never got much heat because some people didn't/don't know difference between a 2.5" Portable and 3.5 Powered. So please research difference between the 2 before voting hot or cold.

Please leave the rep for Zathras through the link in first post for finding this great deal.

Now to the deal...

to get it at this price enter code 10DRIVES

please note you will need to register if your not registered to use voucher code and select home delivery. Doesn't work with Reserve and Collect. if you not prepared to register or want reserve and collect then the price £57.45

dont forget possible 3% quidco.

NOTE THIS IS A USB POWERED PORTABLE HARD DRIVE AND NOT ONE THAT REQUIRES A POWER CABLE LIKE THOSE 3.5" EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES PRICED AT £49.99 AT ARGOS, AMAZON AND PLAY.COM

Nice price...

Will this run off a powered usb hub? Cos I have a pretty much useless WD one which constantly disconnects itself for the heck of it.

Thanks Ghulam. I didn't want to expire your original post and create a new one, as there's no knowing how long the 'web only' price will last.

10p per GB is a good price for these portable hard drivers. Heat added!
#8

I paid £49.97 from Tesco for the same drive a couple of months ago

It also works fine through the USB hub connected to my PS3

You shouldnt of voted cold as the drive xavk posted is a desktop version, thus not the same product
#17
what is the difference between this one and the FreeAgent Go?
#18
136.60 x 80.01 x 17.60 mm is small to me.

Get your tape measure out to see how small this drive really is wish i had the cash as id have had it. Go through topcashback and you should get 4% cashback.

Sugars, you're right. Didn't look through it enough to see.

My apologies to the OP and hopefully others don't make the same mistake.

Bah.

When are people going to learn the difference between 2.5 and 3.5 drives? It's like someone posting a cheap DVD player as an alternative to a more expensive Blu Ray player.

to be fair .. PC World have the wrong pic for this drive - they are showing the 3.5" version rather than the portable 2.5" drive that's on offier

Please don't post when you do not know what you are talking about!

READ THE INFO IN THE HEADING - THIS IS A PORTABLE 2.5" HARD DRIVE WHICH DOESN'T NEED A SEPARATE POWER SUPPLY, NOR IS IT AS BULKY FOR DOING EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

The price and looks...

Just paid £99 for a 640Gb Seagate FreeAgent Go 2.5" at work from Viking Direct...

Wish I had seen this before buying it
#33
Just bought one of these myself,as the Samsung M7 640GB 2.5 inch, that I bought at Amazon, seen on here recently,is still in the custody of the totally useless carrier Amazon are using,
All I want is a reasonably high capacity, low cost,2.5" drive that actually gets delivered,so thanks OP,hot from me.
Even hotter if actually delivered.
#34
Heat. great deal. Dont get paid till week monday though :x

Hi all,

Please forgive me as this is a first post. It's directly in relation to the Hot Deal though. this is just a plee for a bit of help to save me screwing up , so please don't flame!!! I'm happy to accept links to other sites ... it's just thst you guys seem directly in the know

Thanks for all the info ... as usual I now would not hesitate to buy ANYTHING electrical without first checking you guys out.

I'm a bit of a newbie though .... just need a few tips about 'backing up' my 500 plus DVD collection and the best way forward. I need a new storage solution.

I'm currently transfering my DVD's to a 500gb Verbatim USB drive from my Sony Vaio laptop ... no HD stuff , just standard DVD's. Any advice on this as the Verbatim will fill up soon with about another 50 films. I'm happy to buy new drives, but need to know which is the best strategy .... ie back ups, hubs etc. I realise I'm looking at multiple drives, but really do not want to screw it all up!

I've recently bought a WD Western Digital TV HD 1080i Mini Media Player. A bit disappointed ...... seems to hang, and is a bit 'tinny'. No on off switch, and seems a bit of a kid's A Level project. I realise my Media player will drive all my saved DVDs, music etc to my TV (currently in the market to upgrade my old CRT), so really don't wan't to waste hours . Having seen WD Comments on Amazon, their 500GB drives , my passport etc seem quite bad. So far my Verbatim is OK. Any comments?

Cheers!!!

Am I right in assuming there'd be no issue with streaming media to Xbox 360 and PS3 with this drive?
#37
good deal..
But now I am really looking for an SSD for my macbook pro !
any good deals ?
#38
This looks like the hottest deal about for a 2.5" 500GB, but only offering to compare against £49.99 3.5" drives isn't fair.

I have a deal posted for a desktop, powered, 3.5" drive for £37.99.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/647135/iomega-500-gb-external-hard-drive-f

For those who need to be portable, the 3.5" drive isn't suitable, it needs mains power, this 2.5" drive doesn't.

But for those plugging into TVs, PS3s, media players, desktop PCs or laptops and netbooks that are only used indoors, You'll save nearly £14 going with the 3.5" drive.

3.5" drives are faster too, but this isn't an issue as 2.5" drives can read and write data faster than the USB 2.0 connection can, so the effect is that the drives will perform almost identically, both being held back by the data transfer limits of USB.

eSATA, Firewire and USB 3.0 drives would show the speed limits of 2.5" drives compared to 3.5" but these tend to be more expensive.
