I didn't vote either way.

How do you let them know you are on avforum (which I am)?

You must have been a registered member of AVForums.com for at least 14 days. Registration is FREE!

Might have been helpful to mention this!

Maybe I think its fair enough though, otherwise people would join AV forums just to get free delivery!

Good deal, and i've ordered one.

However Scan's pricing is dodgy. It says £41.99 inc Vat. Carriage is £3.99. Yet when you checkout, the total is £46.78. When it should be £45.98.

They're adding £7.80 VAT onto £34.99 (ex vat) + Carriage (£3.99). Not sure how they're working that one out.

Bloody awful website.

First time I've seen VAT charged on postage like, I must say.

It's just been introduced this year, as if we weren't taxed enough already.

good price for 3.0

Anyone know the make of drive in this case? seems a very good deal for usb3 (although i'd need to factor in the cost of the card too!)

+1 with this

the last drive I bought didn't look a quality product - nasty silver painted plastic with an even nastier low grade WD drive inside. It's already started clicking and failing to write, so unless the drive spec has improved I'd avoid this.
(not voted - may just be a lemon drive I had, but it was different capacity, so unfair to vote cold)

Verbatim are Toshiba - I assume it's a Toshiba drive.

I bought one of these and it comes formatted as FAT32 and with free software on the disk - 358MB. I copied this to my C drive as I wanted to reformat the drive as NTFS - it did this very quickly in about 8 seconds. I then tried copying back into a new folder as a test - and again about 8 seconds. I did this several times each way and it was consistently around 8 seconds.

Then I reformatted the drive to NTFS, which worked with no problems - then copied the same 358MB of files back to the newly formatted drive ---- and it took 20 seconds! Now copying either way it always takes 20 seconds. I've tried reformatting, putting it back to FAT32, but now it's always 20 seconds ---- what happened? I just don't understand it.

The disk seems to work ok and the speeds are better than my USB2 drives - but why this difference before/after reformatting? The only reason I can think of is the original software is on some sort of flash memory and not the actual drive, but the act of reformatting to NTFS somehow erases the flash memory as well as the disk contents, so the new copy is now on the hard drive itself.

I'm baffled!
