Isn't Giffgaff better with their PAYG ?

No contract
£10 top up gives you 250 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet.

Am I missing something special about the Tesco sim ?

Some people need more mins than that. 500 Mins, 5000 Texts (as good as unlimited) and 500MB (more than enough for the average user imo).

Yes.

Very straightforward to set up. You can do it all online and I never had to speak to a single person. There is also a little online form for keeping your existing number.

I take it you switch numbers after they send you the sim?
#8
yep, my old dear did it last week
#9
Do you get the choice of having a micro-SIM or is it just the standard size?

I'm on this exact Tesco plan with my Galaxy S :)

What network do Tesco use? And is it speed limited?

a) You could answer the first question by typing it exactly as you wrote it into google.
b) Speed is not limited.

I had a play yesterday with my colleagues tesco sim next to my O2 one. His iphone 4 was getting 1Mb at best, I was clocking 2.5! Seems odd if its not capped?

How can I judge if that's odd or not. Sounds like you were using different phones for a start. You should be using the same phone or at the very least the same model of phone and repeating the test several times as well as doing a field test to check signal strength at the time, then repeating at different times throughout the day.

If you had said they were getting 100-300kb then yes that would be odd.

Both our phones are sim locked, plus the iphones use micro sims don't they?

Either way, his runs much slower than mine. Strangely though so does our other workmates, and she is on O2. We've done several tests now, and they never get over 1.2Mb down (although the up is usually higher!). My SE Arc gets anything from 0.8Mb to 2.7Mb today, but I find it hard to believe the iphone itself is capped. My tmobile sims are both capped, one sim gets 355k and the other at best 1Mb in my Moto Milestone.

Off the back of these tests I've cancelled the tmobile sims, and have gone with O2. If I'd been quicker I'd have tried this deal though, as it is nearly half what I'm paying!
