There is a installation charge of £50, but they put that down too. To £20.

It's offline only :p. You need to call them on 150 from your landline (free), then ask to talk to Customer Retentions. :w00t:

The USB is only £5 for now...but I think the price goes up up up after a few months...and you're tied in to a minimum length contract (18 months, I think)...
#5
Only 50mb in Dover. Think the trial is in Ashford area

Which doesn't apply to the 50Meg service, so it's doubtful it will apply to the 200meg one.

If you are not getting any other VM discount then it's okay.

I've just negotiated going from 10MB to 20MB for just a fiver more and a new wireless (N) router - and I'm already running with an ongoing £20/month discount on phone rental, Talk Int & Talk Mob & what was BB (L).
Total bill will now be £33/month with the BB (XL).

At the moment there just aren't enough sites being able to launch the data at 50MB - 20MB is more than adequate. Another year - who knows !

my 2mb hasn't been upgraded to 10mb yet :( torrents at 50mb would be worth the money.

I agree.. i had 20MB and i couldnt find sites that supported 20M downloads..
the best i have gotten is when downloading linux iso's ;-)

U miss the BIG selling point - no throttling!

I am getting throttled to 25% of my 10M on a very regular basis, due to downloading shitloads and uploading my HD vids to youtube.

But for an extra 21.50 a month, go and take a flying fork to yerself VM

Lol. Ofcourse they will say that at the beginning . Mine was £18 more per month at the beginning then they said i'll put you through to Customer Relations and they gave me a much better deal.

If they say they can't do a better price, simply just ask to be put through to Customer Relations.

Yeah, but real hot deals are deals that everyone can get, you've got a fantastic deal but it's unlikely everyone will get this!

If only that was near me. I live in Kent but I'm lucky to get speeds of 1.5MB :-(
Nevermind 200MB- even 2MB would be something for me to get excited about!

Has the engineer been to your house yet?
What's involved in the installation that needs a charge of £20 (let alone £50)?

Secure newsgroups my friend. Torrents are for suckers!
Get yourself a decent SSL newsgroup. Constant 50mb downloads and Virgin cant see what files!
#27
yep its a good deal for 20mb customers. im gonna be calling today too.

already have all the wireless N stuff so will sell them.
but the modem is just leased to you so you cant sell it.
#28
I called em up the other day to try and take me from 20mb to 50mb and they wanted an extra £12.20 a month due to the discounts that I am already receiving from their tv and phone services.

They also wanted £30 installation charge which I can kind live with due to the new modem but on top of that they wanted a £20 activation fee..... when I asked them exactly what they were activating for that £20 as I was already a broadband customer I was told it was due to all the "extra stuff" I was going to get :whistling:

I didn't take them up on their offer.. If I could of got it for around another fiver a month I would of jumped at the chance.

How long does a 9gb file take with your 20mb connection?

it's not as simple as that, it depends where you are downloading from, how many people are downloading from the source, what kind of upload speed the source has etc.
#32
Yep pretty poor scam. Rather than charge the higher fee for the equipment like they should do (but possibly put off people) they decide to re-word it to activation fee. As already pointed out there is nothing to activate, you've already paid for installation. Virgin always get away with ripping people off and lieing.
#33
virgin are so retarded , it use to be s,m,l, but now its L.XL.XXL which is retarded.
its not good for marketing as its obviously the L is S etc.
it it will be xxxxxxxl

£61 for M Phone, XL TV, XXL broadban is what retentions offered me. Any good?
#35
50mb....I could only wish.
I get a max of 1.5mb....I guess thats what happens when you live in the sticks 3km from the exchange and with possibly the smallest telephone exchange in the country....no cable operator will lay cable anywhere near me, and no LLU operator will unbundle my exchange!

I had the same problem. I called them up and they said they've been having a problem updating everyone to 10mb automatically. 5 minutes after calling them I had 10mb broaband. Dead easy
#37
On my 24Mb Be connection I get an average 14Mb (exactly as they said I would). An 800Mb torrent takes about 20 minutes. That's fine for me. I can't watch a 2 hour film in 20 minutes.

The Virgin deal sounds good if you're already with them. Be give me a 3 month contract though, which shows how confident they are. The longer the contract, the worse the deal is likely to become.

Seems expensive...I'm on talk unlimited, 3 HD boxes XLTV and LBB for £57 (and LBB is fine for me)

I'm on the VIP package so I'm guessing I can't get this due to "discounts" already received.

i managed to get the installation/activation free on an upgrade,
