Might be able to help you with this. Recently took a 1gb stick out of my son's lappy. What type do you need?

Cheap, but pretty useless, most people are literally throwing away 512MB modules as they are are installing 1GB or 2GB modules to replace the 256MB and 512MB modules that were originally pre-installed in the computer.

Maybe if your running windows. But this would give my 2x 256mb Linux laptop a good little kick for £2 so gets heat for me

Ordered from this outfit a stick of memory. Took them 1 week to post it - then came in an envelope with 2nd class stamp on it. No protection. Needless to say the RAM didn't work - failed at Boot Up.
#15
Good price, but its a fairly usless product as no laptops have more than 2 slots of memory, chances are both will already be occupied.

LOL.. ...
Two of these in older laptop (DDR2) will make big difference with many laptops having maximum limit of 1GB.

This.

It's pointless at any price - if you're looking to upgrade a DDR2 laptop, then an additional 512MB isn't much use to you.

Infact you'll find the RAM-limit on DDR2 chipsets is usually 2GB or 4GB.
In addition to this, most DDR2 laptops will either have one or zero free slots - so you'll be buying one or two 1GB sticks to replace or supplement whatever is in there !

I had exactly the same experience although mine worked and I' think it had a 1st class stamp on.. Bought it to increase the Acer Revo to 2gb
Was a little surprised when it turned up in a plain envelope.
Manufactured by AData.

mumbojumbo
Think he was referring to the website asuslaptops.co.uk. Seems to be a shopfront for a business called K.L. Computers in Battersea.

ahh yes that makes more sense.

The domain is registered to Buy It Direct Ltd, it does not appear to be affiliated with ASUS.

I bought 4 and was charged no postage

well im just trying offer you an option for a branded stick of ram rather than buying a generic one as Asus do not manufacture ram sticks. If you dont like pny, the kingston ram is only a tiny bit more and they are more reputable than pny.

1gb samsung http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=1GB_DDR2_SODIMM_PC6400 £12.62 delivered pre order only.

Great thanks. I tried to get 4 because someone said the shipping is free for 4 but it didn't work for me. I still got one to upgrade my 256mb notebook, hopefully it works.

Heh, I thought 'woo, can upgrade my mum's old thinkpad!'

Turns out it's so old it has a maximum of 288mb over 2 slots!

Think it's time to leave it alone until she chooses to upgrade it, and I think I'll upgrade her desktop and do a reinstall for her xmas gift instead.

(I think a faster, cleaner, more reliable PC is something she'd appreciate far more than some after eights and a novelty oven glove!)

What utter drivel! I only use my 2x256MB laptop for surfing the web which has started slowing recently. It has started disk swapping due to heavy going java enabled web pages.

Just ordered 2x512MB which will be more than adequate for my purpose of stopping all the disk swapping. For a fiver delivered, it's just what I've been looking for. Thanks to the OP - H&R added
