lol great episode

i have this card (paid 69 last time it was on offer)
and its very good , runs very cool
the fans a fixed speed one which is very good if a little loud (cant really hear it that much over the case fans)

plays all my games maxed out at 1680 x 1050 cod4 bioshock
crysis also (with shaders and physics and water at high)
smooth

best buy right now for a graphics card

Does it need extra power ?

My Dell Vostro dosent have a spare power connector

yeah, i got this a couple weeks ago, last time it was on sale. people should not that the picture scan are using is wrong - the actual card has 2 DVI ports, as it says in tech specs, not 1 DVI and 1 HDMI port, as the picture shows.

It does have an adapter in the box to turn the DVI port into an HDMI port, and the card supports 5.1 output through the HDMI adapter.

Some reviews I've just looked thru put a 3850 CF setup about on par with a single 512Mb GTS in certain circumstances...

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1246/

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/591/1/

Even more reviews here ->http://www.google.com/search?q=3850+crossfire+review

First things first though, you need to make sure you motherboard actually supports CrossFIre first. Also, it would be preferable (although not essential) if your motherboard chipset for an Intel platform is X38 or X48 since you can then have both PCI-E slots at 16x whereas older chipsets would have been 16x + 8x.

It needs more power than the PCI Express slot can provide but you can use Molex to PCI Express Graphics Card Power Cable to get round not having power connector this should come with the card

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B000KU3QD8/ref=dp_image_text_0?ie=UTF8&n=560798&s=electronics

You will need two molex connections though ;-)

The card comes with a 4pin molex to 6pin PCI-E power adaptor...

The card might not look exactly the same but the rest of the items in that image should.

My budget can't reach the 3870 or 8800 cards so I have compromised and reading the reviews of this card I think I have made the right choice.

Saving that anything is better than onboard graphics and my 256mb 8400gs which bridged the gap until I decided what to get. Hopefully it will arrive by the end of the week.

Thanks top find.

There are SATA to molex adaptors available (e.g. eBay item 120266477924), which can in turn be connected to the molex to PCI-E power adaptor supplied. But it won't work if the PSU itself isn't powerful enough to cope.

I'm aware that Dell's PSUs are 'underrated', etc, but the Dell PSU still needs to be a certain wattage to run a 8800GT safely, i.e. 350w & above I think. IMO, people running a 8800GT on a 300w PSU are taking an undue risk.

Now back to £88.00.
#34
It'll probably be back soon at the reduced price, as these things usually are

Recieved mine today. Very fast but quite noisey as the fan is stuck at 100%, will mod it so I can connect it up to my fan controller :)

The heatsink is excellent, well built and unlike in the picture it also has a metal plate that covers the RAM chips to aid their cooling.

Mine is dual DVI with a DVI->HDMI adaptor.
