55" Full HD 3D Smart LED TV with webOS™ & Built-in Wi-Fi

I bought this tv myself in the Black Friday sales from RGB Direct and I am very happy with it.

For me the stand out features on this TV is the slim bezel less frame which is only on the 7 series LG televisions and up and sound is okay for a tv with front facing 2.1 speakers.

Some of you may of seen a deal for the 650v but that looks nowhere near as nice as this TV set. This has Web OS which I find pretty good and I can stream my You Tube app to the TV flawlessly.

Another very important factor is that this TV is actually the LB730v which retails around £849 so essentially you are getting a TV for £150 less for a pretty much identical model.

This model is different to the 730v only in the fact it has a very dark brown strip at bottom where the speakers are and you cannot even notice it to be honest where the 730v model has a silver strip.

It doesn't have 4K resolution but if you are not bothered about that then there is simply not much better at this price and I should know as I spent ages searching the net and reading reviews on televisions and specs as I always do before I part with my hard earned cash.

The only negative I will say is it does have DSE (dirty screen effect) but every LED suffers from this in some shape or form.

Also there is 5 year optional extra 5 year warranty for £49 if that's your thing.

Just trying to give you a bit of insight being a happy owner of one myself and though I would share the deal for those looking for a good TV at a good price.

Some boring specs now:

This is a really good deal I bought one a few weeks ago, I was dubious to buy from a company I didn't know much about bar google, but although it's only a slightly different model to the one in currys and JL (only a different color stand) they wouldn't price match but RGB customer service was fantastic so was delivery and the TV is amayyyyyyzing!!!

Bought the 42 inch model of this, TV 42LB731V, and can confirm that it is a superb TV.

I sent the 730v back due to really bad DSE. I could accept dse on a 300 quid tv but not on something costing 800 quid plus. I should have said the 730v was £889 so this is a good price but I would rather buy from John lewis as it will be hit and miss if you get one with less dse than others and atleast they will swap it easier.

Yeah I think RGB Direct is like a shop down south or something and I would rather support business's like this than multi million pound corporations.

Yeah my prestige television is a 64" D8000 Plasma with amazing blacks and awesome picture quality. I didn't mind the DSE too much on mine as it wasn't overly bad really and this 55" TV is just one I use for my bedroom which as it turns out I watch quite a lot of stuff on it. Also got a decent soundbar to compliment it nicely on my wall.

You must have huge rooms LOL. The DSE was appauling on mine so much so anything with white or light backgrounds just annoyed me. I replaced it with an LG 50 inch plasma at 449 and its so much better all round even though its a budget plasma, I did think about the 60 inch but at 6.5ft viewing distance it was just too much for my small living room.

Well not that big really just clever positioning of tv's.

The 55" is a perfect fit but the Soundbar I got really sets it all alive with movie nights in bed lol

Looks nice, may do that with my plasma once I can get an oled 55 inch for under a grand.
#9
Yeah OLED is the true replacement for Plasma IMHO

Looks like the 650 with small gun metal finish bezel. I was looking at the 650 in Currys at 50" and bought it yesterday.

LG WEBOS tv's are designed around the smart apps processing being more efficient. The tv has an excellent screen and has some amazing expert reviews which is the reason I bought mine.

Actually their is no bezel on this TV but the 650 has a bezel.

What Smart TV has instant Apps? I have a Samsung 64" and the apps to load up on that are not instant. Even the You Tube App on my iPhone 6 mobile phone takes 5 seconds.

I cannot test aerial TV as I use Sky but my Tou Tube App on this TV takes about 9 seconds to load up from me clicking the button on my iPhone You Tube App to send to Smart TV.

The Apps on this do not take any longer than any other TV I have used and I like the magic remote and think its a good OS on the LG TV.

Again I cannot confirm normal TV aerial as I don't use that as I use Sky HD.

Just figured this deal should of got more heat than the lower 6 series model at same price, isn't that what Hot UK Deals is about.

Thanks.

I agree the tv looks amazing. Like I said the app processing is second to none but the model is let down by the tv tuner channel processing.

Plus it's only £20 more than the LG 55LB650V in Currys.

UPDATE

Tried out the TV today. It does take nearly a minute to turn on. Once on though it's all fantastic. A bit slow scrolling through the menu and a little slow changing the channel but not if you press the channel number followed by ok button. It's also not an issue using channel up or channel down. Looks like the 'expert' reviews are not that expert at all. This is a lot of tv for not a lot of money.

Or maybe those expert reviews were paid off by Samsung or some other competitive company.

My review of this TV is real world., an owner and a happy one at that.

One last thing, my 731 model I posted above takes about 10 seconds to switch on so no problem with that on my TV.

They may have changed the way the tv starts up on the 7 series which you have. I was looking at the 42" today in Richer Sounds and the picture was amazing. Hopefully will get around to unboxing mine tomorrow. My daughter is extremely happy with hers. Far quicker accessing Youtube than her previous Samsung Smart TV.

I have amended my earlier posts. Your post deserves more than 97 degrees. One last question. Looks like your tv is in the bedroom. I thought my 42" in the bedroom was a bit big !!. If you have a 55 in the bedroom what size have you got in the living room ?
#16
Thanks mate yeah it should have more heat this don't know what I did wrong with the post, this is only my second deal posted ever.

I did have a 42" Phillips in the bedroom (started with a 32" in bedroom) but demand for bigger size just grew as I got used to the size. I made the choice to put the 55" on the wall as I had little choice really as even the 42" was taking up a whole side of wall and by wall mounting actually made more room I the bedroom. I think it's a perfect fit now on the chimney Center and looks the part in the bedroom all neat and all and feels just the right size now.
One thing I will say is at night in bright scenes it lights up the bedroom a lot lol

I have a 64" Samsung D8000 downstairs, it's Plasma but that cost me a lot more when compared to this but it has better blacks and although its a smart TV the Samsung isn't as good with Apps as the LG is. Then again I have the Xbox One connected so the Smart TV functionality of the Samsung has become redundant to me.

However the 64" just feels too small now so ideally I would love to rejig the living room and go for an 84" but unfortunately those size televisions cost way too much.

I'm sure a larger TV wall mounted in your bedroom wouldn't feel too much, my bedroom ain't that big and 55" feels just right but I supose it depends how much you value movies. I have a passion for them so big screen films are a must no matter where I am.

Also the soundbar I have is last years top end offering from LG, really impressed after hearing negative views about soundbars in general from people and I have a £2K surround sound system downstairs so I know all about quality sound.. I just wish it had 2 wireless channels for the rear like it has a wireless sub in my bedroom.

Thanks.

Get a 2014 Sony for similar money IMO. Sony really knocked it out of the park this year with their ranrange IMO.

Bought one three months ago for £830. This model is better than the 730 and has satellite tuner (freesat) as well as freeview hd.

The tv itself is amazing with its web os platform.

If your nor after a 4k its the best tv to got for

Must have been Currys, as the 700v is exclusive to them. Never seen it at this price in local Currys. Cracking price if correct. Was it a special offer? The 42LB700v was £499 at its lowest.

I highly doubt that. Reason being i was in Currys before Christmas looking at televisions and the exclusive 700 TV was 799 and in the sale its 749.

Its actually not as good as it has downward facing speakers where the 730/731 has front facing and a darker bottom frame.

I think the person has got his wires crossed. :D Also the 700 isn't the same as the 731 model. I should now i have the 47" version of the 700 series LG which cost me 599 and its still that price now on their website. lol

It was the currys clearance store where they sell of returns and refurbs but my one was with the box glasses still had the stcikers on it and the manufacture date was a month before my purchase. So close to brand new...
