They had these on offer Last Saturday at this price at my local Sainsburys - there was an offer posted on here - i think they must have cleared their warehouse out.

IF you can find any these are HOT - literally!!!

Really? You'll be lucky if you can use them in the summer, never mind the spring...It's grim up north.

You know - my mum has a open coal fire and she is really ill atm (ie terminally) so gets really cold... I might actually stock for winter with these instead of buying coal which is kinda expensive these days.

hot! :)

We've an open coal fire too, would these work? Are they any good for it? If this is an option then this is well hot for us. Would work out half the price of a bag of coal even though we'd need five of these to make up the same weight as a bag of coal!!:)

Asked my mum about it and she says that it'd probably work - a 25kg bag of coal cost about £5 here so it'd be about 28% off for us. They'd burn hotter but quicker we have figured out so it should even out in the end. I suppose it'd work out even better if your home keeps in heat well - my mums doesn't but I still think this'd be a good alternative.

Normal coal for fires isn't particularly dense, it's quite light and airy, i.e. its actual coal, as in the stuf that's mined from the ground. The bbq stuff is charcoal, burnt wood, so no it's not the same.

With regard to whether it would work or not, yes it would work to a certain extent, but it's a quicker and more intense flame, where as normal coal dissipates the heat through a room. I'd probably stick with normal coal or wood from garden if you can
