Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure DVI doesn't carry sound, so you'll only get a picture.

The link you posted is for the 3m one . The one i noticed is the 5m one and £4 for a five metre HDMI to HDMI off ebay is a fantastic deal...

Correct it doesn't. This cable is designed for use where DVI is the source, e.g. a Mac Mini - you would use stereo or optical audio cables to carry sound from the Mac Mini to a HiFi or speakers.

Can anyone comfirm if this would allow me to hook up my PS3 to samsung 226bw (dvi hdcp monitor)? Sound is not an issue as I have speakers with an optical connection to the PS3.

So, if I wanted to connect an Xbox/HDDVD/Blueray to a DVI monitor, what would I need? Is it even possible? (I only need video)

You'll get a picture but the problem is that you can only get the required audio outputs if you use Microsoft (or 3rd party) cables.

Quick question, if your using one of these with a PC to an lcd TV what would you use to run the file to get 720 or 1080 output ? Playing from a DVD player the info gets sent from the player (or set in the output settings), if you play a media file using (say) media play how will the tv know to switch to the correct res ? or is the info in the data stream.

It's been answered already.

HDMI is DVI plus sound.
Converting the HDMI signal to DVI means you loose the sound.

So if your using one on a media pc to an lcd tv how do you get the audio ?

If you select one of the hdmi inputs you get the picture, but then then have to send the audio to a scart or phone input, but when you select that you loss the video ?

So you then also have to get an external sound system ! Or have I missed something ?
