This is a good deal but exactly to what is this music supposed to be an "alternative" to? I suppose there are times when you've had our fill of music with soul... music with heart... and you just want to kick back and chill out in a stupor of corporate blandness.

Apologies... I saw the word 'alternative' and then Coldplay at the top of the list... red mist decends! :)

:? Know what you mean - but to give the album its due, there are quite a few really 'alternative' groups here and even 'Yellow' was original when released - I agree that Coldplay became mainstream (read 'soldout') soon after.

Errr what's wrong with Coldplay? Seem to be a talented bunch of British musicians to me. And seem like good guys too - not arrogant g*ts like a lot of bands. Not getting on some band wagon are we? hmmmm?

Also not sure where the 'sold out' comment comes from. They were mainstream from album 1. Yellow launched them and as I see it they just kept on making great (if mainstream) music.

Hot by the way!

I just hate the term 'Alternative' to describe music, its almost as bad as 'Urban' and 'R&B'

Good deal but you have to wade through Coldplay and Athlete to get to the Interpol, Daft Punk and Grinderman.

No need to get defensive... Coldplay got it because they were top of the list. But for the record there's no bandwagon jumping here. I know it's "cool" to bash Coldplay just "because"... but I don't rate them as a band at all... to me they, and in particular Martin, have made a career out of copying The Bunnymen at their least interesting. As people I've no opinion... they could be really nice chaps but I don't think that means that makes their music any better to my ears. Having said that, they stand head and shoulders above chaff like The Kooks!
