I'll update when it goes live, remember - it doesnt start until 6pm! http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/344142/../341255/lingerie-underwear-sale-cdiscount-5/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Only thing im slightly confused about is ..if you search Archos on the site now (1.21pm atm) its showing as

Archos V500 30gb MP4 Player
35% off price £129.99 (plus using your free delivery code makes it a good deal)

so if we wait until 6pm and they offer 25% off , surely the price is going to be higher

(maybe im missing something ..im not trying to spoil your deal, just pointing out what i see on my screen)

http://www.cdiscount.co.uk/SoundVisionandSatNav/MP3MP4/MP4Players/f-431-177063.html

Is this a further 25% off at 6pm?
[mod]#3
Hi Wenchybev :) What they have done on previous occasions is take an extra 25% Off once the sale starts, the prices should be lower than they are now @ 6pm.
#4
Thanks for replying ...im not used to shopping on this site, so their deals are new to me
[mod]#5
No problem :) I should have been a bit clearer on that anyway.

It didn't work like that for the underwear sale. Prices were pretty much unchanged from hours before the 'offer' went live.

They do have some good prices but definately take note of the price now, and compare it to what happens at 6pm
[mod]#7
Hey c00li0:) We'll just have to wait and see when it goes live, they def should be cheaper though and not more expensive ( I would like to hope so anyway).

Have any of these got have wi-fi access?
#9
The Archos 5 has, the AV500 does NOT.

I love my AV500 and use it everyday. I wouldn't buy another Archos though as I hate the way they charge you extra for codecs, a charger, browser etc; things that should come as standard.
#10
for the archos 5 is shows it having wifi, and a web browser built in.

http://www.archos.com/products/imt/archos_5/specs.html?country=ru&lang=en

No mention of web or wifi with the older v500, so I don't think this has is it also only has a resolution of 480 x 272 compared with 800 x 480 on the archos 5.

Hi All, I have an Archos 5, it is the muts nuts. All the features of an iPod touch, but 60/120/250GB HDD, not 8/16/32! The Archos 5 has all the codecs you could need except the HD H324 (or what ever it is), but you wont need that unless you start ripping Blu-ray's to your player and want to play them back via the dock in HD! I have the battery dock as well, which allows the player to output to TV/Hifi as well as charge faster, have extra battery life (upto 8 hours of movies / 16 hours music) and the best - USB Host! So when travelling you can download stuff off digital cameras etc, or if you meet someone with good music, just plug in their MP3 player and copy it direct to your archos ! :-p

If you have any questions on the players, then just PM me.
#13
P.s. Brower, codec etc all come as standard with the Archos 5, and they do not charge for updates.

Yes, it has a PDF viewer which is highly functional.

If you buy the DVR snap-on they have on CDiscount you will be able to record direct from any TV source, VHS, DVD, TV tuner etc. But the best way to get your movies onto the player is ripping DVDs. All the software is available free, a 1.5 hour movie at high-res can be compressed to about 1GB.

The Archos 5 plays iplayer downoalds

question - why would anyone buy one of these over a netbook? I'm looking at the Archos 5 120Gb which is a touch under 200 quid. That Advent 4211 was a tenner more (refurb, admittedly, but there are other less well-specced netbooks out there for around the same price) but is a complete computer, as well as able to play and store video.

Just curious, is all.

perhaps ironic, but not everything makes sense to some gadget freaks :-D

I have an Archos 605 and an Advent 4211 and the advent wont fit in my pocket

Just over years old judging by the date of this review http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/dvdpvr/0,39030417,39194230,00.htm
#31
How do these compare to the Archos 605 Wifi then? The one that was selling for £99 at HMV a couple of days ago? These are newer models right? But are they actually better?
#32
The Archos 5 is newer and better Ui and the AV500 ois older and no wifi but is a really good mp4 player nothing to buy, comes with dock and remote usually

yeah it is

the 250GB was £224.99 and it looks like it has sold out
the 120GB was £199.99 and it looks like it has sold out
#37
which one is better Archos V500 30GB or 605 30gb wifi ????? i already order for 605 30 gb wifi for 99£ from hmv .
#38
So tempted though the only thing holding me back is that you have to buy the dock to make use of the recording/charging feature (like my mate did for his Archos) otherwise you'd need to use the supplied usb cable to charge. Also for more codec support, you'll need to buy them adding to the additional cost of the device.

Great price and happily proved wrong this time with their discounting
#40
Bu99er. I hesitated and missed the 250GB Archos 5's. Oh well. hopefully the 120GB model I did manage to order will still be a leap forwards from my old 30GB AV400 (which has been great, by the way).
