I am so tempted by this deal, think it would be nice to gain a new skill in learning a new language and for only £8.95, it's a worth a go!

Well, you (almost certainly) won't know the language like a native but then what course does take you to this level? You have to start somewhere and a six month subscription doesn't sound like a bad move for this price.
I'm currently using a six month subscription to LiveMocha to supplement my Open University courses and finding it a very good way to go refresh while I learn and go over points in different ways.

The girlfriend and I have been recently talking about taking refreshers courses in French. I just bought two so we could try and take them together.
