I was in Carphone Warehouse last night to purchase a 16GB iPhone on an 18 month contract and was asking if they'd match the quidco cashback in-store. Of course the answer was no, but what they did offer (after the obligatory case & screen protector) was 6 months half-price line rental.

I was impressed and signed up on the spot - unfortunately when they got to the redemption form bit they had to call head office as they were unsure of the correct options to pick and head office informed them that the deal starts on 1st November, so couldn't process my order (yet).

So just a heads up to anyone thinking of entering a new iPhone contract - hold off for a few days and a hot deal will appear!

nice, thanks for the heads up.

Good one - Will hold off until the 1st November
#3
gutted :-( Brought one on Friday.

Heat added though - good deal.
#4
Which tariff will this apply to?
#5
It's currently the bset deal for a 3G iphone but it still disgusts me that you're paying say on a 35/month contract £159 for a 16G version (roughly what an ipod touch at 16GB is worth from america) and £525 over 18 months (using this deal; £630 at full price). The 18 months of phone usage is worth at most £270 (and purely based on the fact you get 'unlimited' wireless) so paying ~ £350 for the luxury of not having to carry both a normal phone and an ipod seems ridiculous!

Voted hot still as if you have to get one it seems the best way. (Just think of all the other things you could buy though, and the credit crunch)

Monkey nuts 2: I was going to sign up to £45 / month and it definitely was going to apply to that, not having seen any printed info I can't be any more precise, sorry.

zchari5: Interesting points but here's where it kind of falls apart for me...

You say £159 which is roughly a 16GB iPod Touch in America - well, roughly, yes, I'll not get into the price differential argument that invariably forgets about VAT and the realities of exchange rates...

So what you're getting is a 16GB Touch, for substantially less than the price of a UK 16GB Touch, and a phone with GPS thrown in "for free" like so many other 35/month deals.

The minutes & texts are 600/500 + internet + wi-fi.
If you tried building that with Simplicity it would be the £20 (online) + internet (£7.50) + wi-fi (£7.50) = £35 so the same as the iPhone tariff.

On Vodafone, the equivalent as SIM only would be £20 + internet (£7.50) + wi-fi (don't know!) so we can assume that's pretty darned near as well.

On T-Mobile, Flext30 is about as close as they get and thats £30 without the wi-fi.

So it really doesn't seem that bad a package any more...

Anyways, regardless of whether people want / like / loathe an iPhone, as far as I can see it's the best deal out there. :)

Oh yeah, and here's another thought - if Carphone Warehouse offer the same redemption online as they will be doing in-store then there's £45 quidco to take into account as well ;)

Damn! Got my new iPhone 3G contract signed up yesterday evening at O2 (Instore). Took £45/Month + £59 (for 16 GB - Black). Also included insurance to make sure I handle it well, leaving to swiss next month for a short trip, so took it.

Should I've waited until Nov. 1 for this hottt deal? !! Hot Hot from me!

Already in love with my iPhone.. FaceBook App is awesome....!!! :whistling:
#9
I too have just taken out a new contract, I'm just wondering as I ordered mine online if I can use the cooling off period to cancel and then recontract.
#10
Hope they will do this offer online. So we can get Quidco too!!!
#11
Wooo.. sounds interesting. Will be interesting to see the deal and if it's valid.

Will be getting one soon hopefully. If i get out my three contract free or not! Need a phone that actually works!

The SImplicity 25 (£20 per month) provides a free bolt on (unlimited texts, wi-fi or unlimited data) so to match the iPhone offering, you would only pay £27.50.

I currently have an iPhone 3G that was sent in error to me as a replacement by O2, which I am using Simplicity sim card in. 600 minutes, 1000 texts, and Unlimited data (I don't have many Wi-Fi hotspots near me to add the bolt-on) all for £20 with a 30 day contract. I feel ever so....lucky?

can see this turning into mud-slinging like the Wii for £99.99 thread as its a "heads-up" with only hearsay to back it up.

seems like a good deal if its true

im within my cooling off period too... i could cancel and then resign in november, but can i live without my iphone for that long!!! :P

sent in error??!!

who makes that kind of error!
#16
The ideal situation would be Quidco, 6 months at £22.50, then downgrade to the £35 a month contract! I could be tempted to upgrade my 2g for that...

i bet they are!

the £20 o2 Simplicity 25 is actually 600min 500text with double text, i.e. 1000text, a free bolt on (choice of unlimited wi-fi or unlimited data and others) so it's only £20 a month for 600min/500text/unlimited wifi.

i think it make more sense to buy a PAYG iPhone 3G 16G £349.95 + o2 £10 voucher - QuidCo £5 + £20/mth 600min/500text/unlimited wifi. 1mth rolling contract.

You can downgrade 1 price plan after 9 Months (confirmed through email from o2 directly). So best option is £45 with cheaper phone for 9 months then downgrade to £35 a month package and sit it out for another 9months.
I have a IPhone 2G that just died on me (bottom of the screen is not taking touch inputs now, apparently happens alot) - unfortunatly as i got it in the states well over a year ago and its unlocked no chance of apple fixing it, sigh! Think this offer may push me to get the 3G :)

I totally agree - would anyone like to give Carphone Warehouse a call and see if they can get this independently verified? All I know is what I was told last night, and I was in the presence of the sales guy while he was on the phone finding out the offer wasn't yet available. He assured me that come 1st November it would most certainly be available and I doubt he'd have passed up the sale if this was untrue.

Heh, get enough people holding off buying at Carphone Warehouse and perhaps they'll bring the deal forward :D:D:D
(Yeah yeah I know, wishful thinking....)

Ummm hold on though, your £20 / month only includes EITHER unlimited data OR unlimited Wi-Fi, not both, so like with like is £27.50 / month.

Plus 3G 16GB is £399, not 349.
So 18 x 27.50 = 495+399 - £10 voucher - £5 quidco = 879

(And even if you settle for either wi-fi OR data @ £20/month this is £744)

OR
£45 tariff for 9 months + £35 for 9 months (inc. 6 months half price rental) = £585
+ £59 for handset = £644 and potentially another £45 back of quidco.

Looks to me you're much better of with the contract now than without, to the tune of somewhere between £100 and £280 depending on quidco and monthly payment.

Who would be stupid enough to phone them and believe anything they say or are told by any member of staff from CPW.
#26
sounds like the deal ive been waiting for!

did the £90 vodafone quidco deal which comes through in november, so the £90 ive saved on line rental goes towards the iphone as well as the half price and £45 from quidco to make it a very attarctive proposition!

gutted :-( Brought one on Friday.

Heat added though - good deal.

dont you have a 14 days cooling off period??
#28
Even with 6 months 1/2 price it's a riduculous price for a phone that competitors have beaten already with much better products
#29
Voted Hot! This is out the same time as the Vodafone Blackberry Storm... Wonder why

Hardware yes. Software no.
Although when the new nvidea phones start rolling out at the end of the year (or next probably for us), bye bye IPhone!

Lots of companies make mistakes. My dad was sent a 160gb ipod worth about £250, he didn't order it. Sent to his address under his name. The delivery person put it in his garage and he found it a month later, the honest chap he is called the delievry company twice they did't call him back. Shame is that he has 100's of vinyls and is a technophobe and struggles to print a web page on his basic printer.

Such as? Can't think of another device (I use the word device as a phone is just one of its functions) thats as nice to use. Most other phones are hopeless at web browsing or their emails hopeless or the music functions are truely awful. Name one that does even just those 3 things as well as the iPhone?? :?

I really wish people would engage their brains before banging on about the price. If you can afford it and want one, fine. If its outwith your price range, fine, stop reading about it, stop posting about it, just plain stop. You can't afford one, tough luck., move along and stop crying about it. I can't afford a Ferrari, so I don't look at them, don't look at the prices and don't go on Ferrari forums banging on about "Oh so overpriced, theres much better cars out there"...

my mistake, 16G is 399.95. also comparing for like-for-like you need to buy a £7.50 extra bolt-on for unlimited wi-fi.

for a real situation, you would not be benefited a whole lot with unlimited wi-fi. first you need to find a hotspot, second you will need to have the demand of what wi-fi can deliver but 3G can't, like huge media downloading.

my point is a 1month rolling contract. which you are free to move between deals. no one knows what's going to happened in the future, 18months contract is a long time, which I have and will never commit to anything more than 12months. you usage might change, the price might change, etc. but for sure the trend is technology is getting cheaper by day.

Nice deal. Happy I got my PAC from 3 now. Got a mate who works in CPWH so I'll see if I can get this confirmed.

Heat and Rep added.

does this mean o2 will be doing some kind of tariff/ price cut? 12 month contract would be better

any news on un-locking these??? dropped my last iphone (thanks to Hot uk deals) in the toilet and have missed it soooo much, need another but don't want an 35 quid contract

Then the person in CPW was telling me porkies which, if he knew they were porkies, doesn't make much sense as we went through the whole credit check, sign-up process before it all went pear-shaped.

So instead of gaining a sale (as I'd already told them I was about to purchase online) they would have lost a customer - I don't see any point in that, do you?
