Lots of comments on Play.com that you can't save progress on a lot of games, making it a bit tedious.
#3
Doesn't matter, the bonus gadget has changed.
It's now a Joytech AV control centre.
#4
Thanks for the post!.. Keen on the magazine anyway and the free toy looks quite cool.

Hmm, having ordered it they better not swap the toy for some Joytech AV mumbo, that sounds super boring....
#5
According to T3's home page it's still the megadrive.
#6
Looks like a good deal.

I love the way they date magazines.

AUGUST 2009 (on sale approx. 25/06/2009)
That would be the end of June, or July issue maybe, but August?! :?

I remember having the GameGear years ago... Blooming huge for "handheld" but quite fancy a go on this.

And some techy reading into the bargain as well - very nice!
#8
There pretty good bought a friend one. AV output is good, its just a shame regarding save. Would wait on a save game revision.

It's showing the AV control centre on this page if you take a one year sub. (About two thirds of the way down the page)
#12
It has AV out so you can stick it RGB.
#13
Just noticed Shinobi... Must get one now. I was addicted to that on my old +3 Speccy!

Just a little concerned by the fact some people think the gift has changed?!?

Also you could get £5 from CBK... This gets better and better!!!
#14
I'd rather have the Joytech, just cancelled my stuff subscription so I can subscirbe to T3 :)
#15
Wow, just noticed it actually has an LCD screen, assumed it was just an all-in-one controller to connect to TV!

I assume it's 100% authentic, and only includes save game capabilities in the games that had them in the first place! Pretty annoying if you're running it off batteries though.

If you've got a console, you can pick up a Megadrive Collection disc with a similar set of games - that also lets you save state at any times on all games I think (the Xbox Live Arcade versions of Sonic definitely do).. if you're not bothered about the actual 6 months of T3 and that this is portable, that is.

I bought one of those Joytech AV things ages ago - its gathering dust now - if you have a Wii and 360 running through it the intereference on the Wii was terrible.. Several reviews on play since also reflect the same issue. Pants :(
#17
Can you cancel after any time?
#18
The Joytech doesn't handle High Def, HDMI or Component sources, only Scart, Composite & S-Video so don't think it's worth it.

Some Joytech AV control centres that match their picture and description (eg 245C £29.99 on play.com http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3271481/Joytech-245C-AV-Control-Center/Product.html ) have component and optical, so they handle hidef. No HDMI though, so I wouldn't bother now, but I'd have loved a cheap one of these a couple of years back!

The cheaper one on play.com http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/171036/AV-Control-Centre-Silver/Product.html does not support "7 devices" as per the description.

There do exist "7 device" (6 in 1 out) models without component though: http://www.joytech.net/products.php?section=viewprod&productID=76

Hmm not on play.com for either of the models I can see now?

I have had cheap noname all in one cables whcih only worked plugged one a time into each console, I'd have thought a fancy box like this would do a decent job.

I stand corrected, must admit that I was only looking at the AV Center, not the AV Control Center 245C!!

Hi,

I've gone through the T&C's of the subscription and it appears you can cancel in writing within 60 days of purchase and the term if 12 months as opposed to 6 months. Have i read this correctly or have misunderstood something?

Thanks

From Amazon "you can now request an adapter free from Joytech to fix the Wii component issue. For those technically inclined, it's actually just a resistor on the 'Y' signal, as the Wii provides too strong a signal for the Joytech Control Centre (and some TV's). "

The handheld Megadrive is selling for £27.99 alone on play, so this is an excellent bargain.

not saving reminds me of how games used to be. you had to play them straight though, much more challenging and frustrating lol

Agreed saves would ruin it

But especially since it is a portable handhelp console, it would be good if you could save state at any time to go recharge the batteries or something, then it would only let you load that save state once and wipe it. So none of the easiness of modern saves, but you can actually take a break if you want or need to.

But yeah all the modern console ports have much more fully featured saving.

Heat from me!

I cant see the bit where it says the sega or the price.

Ah found it.

Anyone see any catch to this?
#28
I used to lie awake at night, dreaming of a portable mega drive.
SEGA NOMAD came but was to limited and pricey.
Sure, you can emulate on NDS, PSP but to have cart compatability just feels right
#29
Megadrive emulation on the NDS isn't all that great if you ask me, and SNES emulation is even worse. This is a good deal. Shame you can't use those old catrridges in this though :p
#30
It's the MORE expensive new megadrive with cart support (and the same builtin games), the one that only plugs into the telly. Pretty surprising when this has a builtin LCD and sound, but I guess it's tricky to find somewhere to but those chunky old carts on a handheld.
#31
I have one of these handheld Megadrives and the lack of game saving is a pain. I paid about £15 for mine in Argos when they had it on offer and it is amazing for the money. The screen quality is brilliant. When I bought it and saw the scart lead I assumed I'd bought the wrong thing as only wanted it so I could play on the move but then I realised there was a sticker over the lcd screen! Doh!

If it's a magazine subscription you sign up for with direct debit, cancel before the end of 6 months. That's the whole point of giving you the magazine AND the thing worth more than the magazines - they're hoping you won't cancel and keep paying for the sub! It will make it very clear if it's a one off payment for just 6 issues while you sign up for it (and then they'll pester you to renew) but these offers I've done in the past were always direct debit which is a dead giveaway they expect ongoing payments from you until you cancel.

why do some people think the gift is not the handheld mega drive?
