£6 Sainsburys Vouchers

Not really sure where to post this, but when i recently used a sainsburys self scan checkout it chucked some money off vouchers out at me (£6 off £60 spend, £2 off £20 spend etc)

I was going through the self scan checkout next time and went to use the £2 one having spent just over £20, but accidently scanned the £6 one and it worked. Turns out it works on anything over £6, and there is nobody there to take the vouchers off you so you can use them more than once

Would not reccomend this, all vouchers are linked to your nectar card. This holds your name and address and could be suspended.

Would not reccomend, but own choice

I know it's tempting when you're short of money but wouldn't they look at this as fraud or theft?

you don't have to scan your nectar card
just say you never collected the voucher, or just use one of the ones that somebody else has left behind

I do this with sainsbury's vouchers in Tesco, they scan fine.
If i get caught and my nectar card / clubcard get suspended - who cares!

Worked with the £8 one I have. I actually thought I was scanning my 30p off on your next purchase or ketchup voucher, but the £8 came of of my £31.?? bill. So I paid my remaining £23.?? bill in cash and left. The thing is that you don't have to scan your nectar card and the voucher is not registered to you card. How can it be, it's a standard voucher barcode. So unless one of the staff are watching over your shoulder you can do it fine.

Sod um if they are stupid enough to have till software that lets you. It's like the old days when their BOGOF always took off one of the original prices. I use to get paid to take items home that had been reduced to less than half price and were BOGOF. £1.99 down to 50p (end of day reduction stuff) use to go through as 50p + 50p - £1.99 = -99p. Many a shop ended with 20 loafs of bread leaving the store with me and several quid off my bill. Shame the sorted that out, but it ran like that for at least 3 years.

Totally agree - If they cant figure this out and they have software that does this then why not.
I dont have a nectar card - How are they going to trace me and suspend me. Never done this by the way but will do - Can someone let me know where i get the vouchers from?

The vouchers come out the till at a normal cashier till. Sometimes they are money off specific items, double or extra nectar points or this spend x get y off type vouchers, also sometimes the machine doesnt print any off so its just your luck and I expect uses your buying patterns via the nectar card to decide what vouchers to give you in order to try and increase sales

Not sure if people have heard of this story but it's a scam that was used by a (now former) policeman who discovered that a voucher can be initially scanned at a self service till but the system can by subsequently fooled by inserting a simple piece of plain paper into the slot instead of the voucher. Thus enabling the voucher to be kept for future use.

It is of course fraud and I strongly advise against trying it. The policeman was rightly convicted of the crime.

Having had a tenner off 100 for each of the previous two weeks amongst others this week I got none at all - I wonder if the activity described in this thread was costing them a lot of money....
