Indeed, I didn't think you could still get such low capacity batteries. I hope they're not NiCads!

Does anyone know anywhere good to gett rechargeble batteries?

Sanyo eneloop are excellent rechargeables - they don't lose power when not being used...

Or they are even cheaper - at Lambda although no charger I think you can pick up a cheap one somewhere...

P.S Although only rated at 2000MaH they last for ages (Canon EOS 40D)

In PC-world they are doing a FujiFilm camera accessory kit for £7.97 which contains an "overnight charger" and 4 x 2000mAH Ni-MH AA batteries. Also included is a soft camera case.

Homebase has good deals fairly often on Hybrios (the type that initially come with a charge and lose their charge very slowly compared to others if not used).

Maplin are OK when they have specials on bundles of 12 or 20 batteries - but not at their normal price.

Try to buy a charger that will charge any number of batteries up to its maximum and not just 2 or 4, as they average the charging over each multiple of two - so with a good and dead battery being charged at the same time - you can fry the good one.

Lidl has a good charger in stock currently for £13 that can charge six AAs or AAAs at a time (or 2 Cs or Ds in addition to two PP3s (9v square batteries)).

If you live in Glasgow - for some reason this charger is only £7.50 in the Nitshill Rd branch next to Matalan.

But as an introduction to rechargeable batteries that you can have charging in your house later today its a stop in the right direction.

HOT

Currently AAAs should be 900/1000mAh for standard rechargeables and 800/850 for slow drain ones.

AAs 2500-2700 for standard and 2000-2200 for slow drain.

These figures are fairly general, and will increase with time. However anything much higher is lying about the capacity and not worth buying.

LED Shoppe has some 3800 AA's here and 1600 AAA's here

I don't believe that figure for one moment. But it's true that 1300mAh is surprisingly low for a NiMH and I wondered too if they might be NiCds.

I have some genuine magic beans for sale - if you would like to buy them too?
