I have been looking for a good deal on the Nikon D40x for a while now and it seems like I'm being rewarded for waiting. Nikon is now offering a £60 cash back on the D40 and D40x if you buy one of their kits (body and len(s)).

As far as I can see the best price for the Nikon D40x Kit (with AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II) is at Ebuyer (£386.88 with GC and Super Saver Save shipping) but they are out of stock. At tekmo.co.uk the price is £404.99 incl shipping but I don't know these guys :(. Anyway with £60 cash back you will get a good deal almost regardless of where you buy.

This is my first post so I hope you like it!

In the paper today Currys are advertising the D40 with 18-55 lens at £289-79. This includes the cashback.
#2
Eatay have the D40 kit for £329 with free delivery mega saver delivery (7-10 days). Haven't checked the terms of the cashback promotion but I guess it should qualify for the £60 though.

There is a huge difference between D40 and D40x though! £326 for a D40x with its massive amount of megapixels sounds quite good to me!
#4
Ebuyer have the Nikon 40 for £328.99 - with google checkout £318.99...

As always good site to check is -

However, just noticed its on 6 overdue!

Might be worth considering John Lewis; £349 - £20 CODE (ELL851KJH587) - 5% Quidco - £60 Cashback?
Works out around £250 mark

Unless you already have some Nikon lenses the Pentax K100D + 18-55 lens from Jessops at £299 if a better deal than the D40. However, the D40X looks Ok at around £325 but do you actually need the extra pixels? If not the K100D has stabalisation with all compatible lenes, even old manual focus glass. There is a good review here; www.dpreview.com

You may want to check ebuyer is selling a UK version. My D40 from them looks suspiciously like a Hong Kong version. English manual but lablled HK on the box and no UK registration card.
I'm not sure what your rights are if it goes wrong.
#9
thanks cdwall, I suspected as much. No cashback with that deal then. Jessops bumped up their price because of this deal which I think is a bit slimy.

megapixels mean NOTHING. Are you blowing up shots to huge sizes? then it's an unnecesasry feature.

when will pentax do cashbacks?:x
#12
Ok well now lets see who can find the cheapest Nikon D40 or D40X! :)
#13
where have you seen D40X for £385?
#16
I bought a Nikon D40x Brand new UK model for £405, with the £60 cash back this takes the price down to £345. I nearly bought the D40 lastnight for £330. Once I receive the camera, I will post how I got this great price. I just don't wanna jinx it if you know what I mean
#17
If anyone thinks about using Tekmo the cameras aren't uk models, nikon won't pay out on these. The guy at Tekmo informed me of that,

Cheers

Maybe for the D40 yeah, not the D40x, the deal I got beats the Canon EOS 400D that went for £350 in tesco the other month, they are pretty much like for like. If you can get it cheaper, please let me know, I will ask for a refund.

P.s it was a D40x with lens kit 18-55mm for £345

Isn't it 8% quidco?
#24
Actually the Nikon D40x is £499 at John Lewis... so even with 8% quidco it still expensive there.
#25
Ebuyer no longer have the D40X advertised :x
#26
Ordered a D40 from JL - tomparish's code works great. It will end up costing around £252 after the cashback
#27

You got to make sure Nikon will pay out with these online retailers.
They mention dealerships on their website.

I have spent all morning trying to find the best deal but if Nikon don't pay then:x :x :x

"To celebrate this 90th Anniversary milestone, we’d like to give you £60 (in UK) /€90 (in Eire) cash back when you purchase one of the Nikon D40x or D40 camera kits featured below between June 1 and August 31, 2007. Please note the offer is only valid for new products purchased at a dealership and only applies to products with a warranty card issued in Europe."

If you check sites like Currys and Dixons, they mention the cashback on their D40 pages

The best deal I found is from John Lewis.
#32
I was considering if Dixons Tax Free would be a good option??

Dixons.co.uk has the camera listed at £478.79 (and mention the promo) assuming they take off 15% in the tax free store - that would take it down to £407 - £60 cash back = £347 :-)..

Now I just need a cheap flight somewhere ;-)
#33
Anyone can recommend a shop that sells cheap but good cases for the D40?
#34
did anyone find out if the more expensive ebuyer d40 is a UK version?
#35
Superb offer. I wonder whether the D40x will get much cheaper over the next two months.

For those who never plan on blowing their pictures up more than A3 then they won't see any difference in the D40X. In fact from reading the reviews of the D40X there are some minor differences that give the D40 the advantage over it. I seem to remember purple fringing at the edges being more defined on the D40X than the D40. But the D40X does have one further advantage over the D40 and that's it ability to be set at 100 ISO rather than just 200.

I would recommend going in to a news agents and looking in the photography magazines. You will often find that by subscribing to one of them for a quarter you'll get a free camera case worth £30-40. That's how I got mine. A Lowe Pro one that it excellent.
#37
Thanks for the tip, will check out the mags
Wife and I decided to go for the D40 instead of the D40X. At £252, I don't think we can complain too much :)
#38
WATCH OUT FOR GREY IMPORTS!!!
Be very careful - some of the UK online retailers are selling grey imports and these are NOT subject to the cash back offer- you should confirm situation with the retailer before buying- dont assume all purchases from UK sites will be covered. For example UK Digital Cameras sell non UK stock and these cameras will not NOT be included in the cash back (they have confirmed this to me by email) also they do not have a Nikon warranty- thats why UK Digital Cameras give a "free" 2 year warranty!!
#39
As long as the warranty card is issued in Europe, it should be okay for cashback.
If the one I ordered from JL isn't, I'll just return it.
#40
Received my D40 from JL today. I can confirm it's a UK version with Nikon UK as distributor
