Don't rely on that. I got a stunningly cheap set on bid-up.tv's website a few years back, and another fairly cheap one in Lidl more recently, and though both look designed to be Brio compatible, they don't actually work together (haven't tried them with real brio). The tracks join up OK, but the slots for the train wheels are a couple of millimetres different in spacing, causing derailments.
Keep meaning to have a go at it with a router, but I'd have to buy a router...
