Went into my local blockbusters to see if they had any cheap PS3's because it's hassle me taking mine to and from uni, and they told me they didn't have any in stock, but the store 12 miles away had 60gb PS3's for £149.99, said it is nationwide. Obviously not every store will have these in stock it's just what is left, but I thought this was a good price for an original with backwards compatibility

Assuming it comes with a warranty of a year thatd be a pretty good bargain.

It will do.

Nice one. The 60GB version is the one to have if you dont need lots of storage as it's the only one that's PS2 compatible and you can always upgrade the HD for £40 or so if you do need the storage.

going to give donny 1 a ring later thanx

I would make sure if you get one buy with a cc just in case they end up like American blockbuster

Maybe that was a poor choice of phrase, but bless you, my heart bleeds. Try holding down a full time job, family, mortgage, bills etc, now thats "hassle", not worrying how to gel your hair or knot your scarf.

Maybe your choice of words is also somewhat questionable......the "hassle" of holding down a family - the wife and kids would no doubt love your description of the joys of family life!

yet still have the time to come on an internet site and write a load of drivel.....

oh the irony.

anyway the OP might live hundreds of miles away from uni but regularly travel between the 2. It would be a pain to keep taking a PS3 each trip (if wanted to use at home and uni), so why not have 2 consoles? I know several people that have more than 1 (just in 1 house).

This depresses me considering I've spent about £100 keeping my current PS3 running.

I would pay extra £50 and get a new slim from Sainsburys. Those 60GB machines are not reliable. I've had 2, both failed.

Ah well that is your choice, just because he does not have kids (most likely because he is in UNI!) does not mean that what your doing is what everyone should be doing and get compared to constantly as if you are living your life right because you have kids and you must drag down with you anyone who has fun. I hate that mentality, just like my brothers who think that everyones life must be a misery because their own is.

Same here. A quick search on ebay reveals there are almost NONE that haven't been refurbed / repaired.

In other news, they've been this price at Blockbuster for a long time - just that very few stores have any stock of these old units.

I was planning to do that but my Sainsbury's doesn't sell consoles. :( Well they said they are going to soon once they've finished renovating it but that doesn't help me now.

Don't speak too soon. Mine is also 2 1/2 years old and just packed up Saturday!!! Comes on for a few seconds three beeps then off. No lights at all! Hoping it's the power supply as it's an easy fix, otherwise I'll be on here to find the best deal on a slim!

Totally agree. Had mine since launch and never had a problem with it :)

My mates 2nd PS3 broke (both times the blu-ray drive) and they wanted £100 to fix it, he told them no and asked for the supervisor. Ended up getting it repaired free.

Touch wood, my 2yr old PS3 is still working fine. Good to know that a 60GB model might be available if my one ever croaked.
#24
These are all going to be pretty damn old now.
For the extra fifty quid a new slim console is far better for the vast majority of people.

Be honest, how many of you would use the extra USB ports, memory card slot or backwards compatibility?

I wouldn't at all. Also you can fill 60gb pretty quickly.
#25
Any idea's of stores that may have some phoned lots and none have any.

Got a 40Gb one from ASDA recently for £140, full warranty, brand new, old style build quality (from when they cost $800 to make!) but with 65nm core and thus a little less power consumption and quieter than the other old ones... sorta half way between them and the slims.. also matt silver band rather than that tacky chrome... a bonus I did not expect.. doubt there have any left but you never know

I do live about 120 miles away! I travel back each week as I've kept my job on 2 and a half days a week, so it is an inconvenience to take it back and forth every week as I bring back my washing and laptop aswell ( not paying the £3 a wash the uni charge!! )

No, matt silver is best.

It's betting looking.

fat ps3 will die just like mine did, its like a ticking bomb

I went for the bestbuy deal. 320 gb machine, move, medal of honour, 3d bluray for £250. Cex give u £30 for moh, sold the blu ray for £15 and kept the move. Machine cost me £205 with the move and my dual shock packed up and this includes one. Great deal :D

£150 for a seondhand PS3. Even if I was desperate to play my PS2 games (which I'm not, I have a PS2 that does that), no thanks
#37
wouldn't recommend the fat PS3 as I had YLOD.. Put £50 more and buy slim.
FAT version also can't bitstream HD codecs.
#38
ps3's lots more reliable than the xbox360, but still not as good as they should be!

I have had a 60gb version from launch and had no problems, obviously some people have, so I guess I can understand why some people would be reluctant to get this particular version.

Personally I put a 640gb drive in mine because (as some have mentioned already) 60gb soon gets filled, especially if you like downloading demos and games from the PSN Store. but I guess everyone wants different things from their console. For me, I love this version and do occasionally use several of the USB ports at once (for charging spare controllers/phone/mp3 player etc.) Plus you obviously get a variety of memory card slots (which I do use) and then theres backwards compatibility (which in truth is limited) I did use the PS3 for PS2 games when I first got it but many of them didnt work properly and now I dont really touch the PS2 games anymore.

So overall, I think the 60GB is a good version, but it all depends what you would use it for personally.

P.S. YLOD is not totally incurable. If your brave enough you can open up the console and if you apply heat from a diy heat gun to certain components you can actually bring it back to life, though I would admit it does not always serve as a permanent fix.... you can find details of this elsewhere on the internet.

wow thats cheap

£150 for an old second hand console - cheap? Crazy talk. My Sainsbury's still had the 160gb for £200 when I was in there on Friday.
