Using code "SONYTRADE100" you can get £100 off the current John Lewis price of £749.95 when you trade in an old TV (can be any TV at all). This is an excellent deal as John Lewis is currently price matching Argos (Price was £899) and thus you would be saving a total of £250.

Purchasing through John Lewis, however, you get the John Lewis 5-year guarantee as well.

There is a similar deal already for the KDL40EX403 - do NOT get this TV, however. This TV is only 50Hz, so you will get severe motion judder, especially during fast-moving scenes (i.e. sport) or panning scenes in a movie/TV show. This TV won a Best Buy award in this month's What Hi-Fi, beating the Panasonic G20 42 inch that I was previously going to purchase:
http://whathifi.com/Review/Sony-KDL-40EX503/

This is a World Cup promotion, and the trade-in deal expires on Sunday 11th July to time in with the World Cup Final.

Note you can go through Airmiles and get 129 Airmiles for buying this.

John Lewis TV description:
This TV features an integrated Freeview HD tuner which will allow you to watch subscription-free HD broadcasts. To watch Freeview HD broadcasts youll need to check that you can receive it in your area.

Enjoy movies and games in stunning Full HD on this stylish Sony Bravia KDL40EX503U LCD TV.

It uses Motionflow 100Hz technology with Image Blur Reduction which ensures smooth, sharp images in fast moving scenes, making it a great choice for sports and action movies. And as its powered by a Bravia Engine 3 youll experience images with impressive detail, optimal contrast, and truer-to-life colours.

S-Force Front Surround complements the great picture with the full effect of digital surround sound. The Invisible speakers are cleverly hidden in the design and positioned for the ideal sound elevation.

The KDL40EX503U is Wi-Fi Ready so when you add your wireless adaptor or USB dongle you can easily connect to your wireless home network without the clutter of cables. With Bravia Internet Video youll be able to connect your TV directly to the Internet to access selected online services. You can also plug in USB devices to enjoy stored movies, photos and music.

And lets not forget that the Sony KDL40EX503U is also DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible. This enables you to access your photos, music and movies from your PC across your home network from a compatible device. For instance, you could play your friends the latest MP3 track youve just downloaded, even though your computer is upstairs in the spare bedroom.

1080p
1080p is the purest form of high definition that a television can display. This leads to a smoother, more film-like image, which will satisfy sports and movie lovers alike. With a 1080p signal, the information that makes up an image is displayed progressively or all at once, rather than in an interlaced fashion.

Really? For £649, there's an LCD TV with LED backlighting and Freeview HD built in?

If there is, please tell me and I'll cancel my order at John Lewis.

No? Oh, right. Thought not.
#5
Costs £9 to take your old TV - for that reason I'm out :p

Shame I've just bought a SAMSUNG LED or I'd have been very interested in this
#6
It says they'll take your old telly for free on the website?

Still desperately trying to justify that overpriced TV you bought I see.
#8
I've asked everywhere else (to no avail) so I may as well ask here too.... how's the input lag on this set for Wii & PS3?
#9
Just ordered this TV, no charge for removal of old TV. They deliver new TV, take away old TV and there is a 5 year guarentee. I feel it is a very good deal.

But as with all these deals there will be an even better deal along soon, you have to take the plunge sometime.

Also £16 donation has gone to my favourite charity by buying it through easyfundraising.

Arse.

Went over to Comet to have a look at it, came back to order it from JL and it's out of stock.

Arse.

Any idea how quick JL restock their items?

Cant see why not, Im hopefully off to JL this Pm, will ask.

Guys,

I just had a run in with John Lewis on this telly. I purchased it from them 2 weeks ago and paid £899. They are refusing to refund the difference of £149 to match the Argos price. Apparently their "never knowingly undersold" policy only applies to stuff bought in store and not online. John Lewis Direct, their online branch, dont offer the same policies as the high street. Be warned, If you are going to buy from John Lewis, walk into a branch.....

I feel a letter to Watchdog coming on :x

PS telly very good, maybe i should have waited a couple of weeks....

Phoned them today. Have to take the tv into store with me. Reserved the telly, picking it up tomorrow morning. Apparently they have their own area of the car park (as i won't be able to carry my 28” crt far....)

I went to JL Solihull today, they wont/cant order me one as apparently Sony have withheld orders? 1300 TV's on order according to the JL sales guy... he advised me to keep watching the website... why is this a different tale to the one you tell? He did confirm that the £100m trade in does apply though.. Where did you go?
TV looked good... can someone confirm that viewing angles are ok?
Elbow....:?

I've reserved on at JL Solihull..... I can only guess that as people have purchased/reserved their stock then they aren't getting anymore in at the moment. I won't be impressed if i lug that telly of mine over there only to be told they haven't got one....

I got the missus to phone up and check after you posted your first message. JL said that as we have a reservation code we would definitely have one of the tvs reserved for us. I'll let you know how i get on tomorrow.

hi guys.
Just to let you know that i walked into JL at bluewater today.
I ordered this TV and was given an order reference so was told i will deffinitely get it for the price agreed (749 - 100 discount for old TV making it 649)
I was told stock should be in approx 14th May but could be upto 4 weeks. Also i did not have to give in a TV now, they will collect it when they deliver.
The trade in TV can be any size, any type, any make and working or not.

Hope this helps.

BTW, i went to Bestbuy today for teh launch...they were 899 but would price match JL and would offer teh trade in ...if you spoke to the right person. Only negative was the warranty was standard 1 year...oh and teh queues of course!!
#21
As an alternative... How about Comet for 749.99 with a free Sony 7" Digital photo Frame? No 5yr warranty however, but they don't break till just over 5 years!

Picked up the TV this morning. Only had an hour or so to play with it as got work this afternoon but it looks awesome. The freeview looks great, even the standard and the freeview HD looks even better.

One problem I have encountered is that the audio on the BBC HD channel sounds like it's in a tunnel, there's a slight echo. This hasn't happened on any other channel, including ITV 1 HD and Channel 4 HD so I wonder if it's a temporary problem with the BBC HD preview... I'll be keeping an eye on it... (well an ear).

Regarding the input lag. In 'General' mode there is a noticeable sluggishness to the wii and even more so on the PS3, everything just seems slow. In Uncharted 2, when moving the camera stick quickly over to left or right, there is an almost half second delay to the camera moving. However, putting the set in 'Game' mode produces a nice, solid, fast movement and although I've only tested quickly, I couldn't see any lag whilst in game mode. I tested it using the 1:1 of Wii Sports Resort.

So, overall, very happy. Didn't realise that the telly wasn't on a rotating base, but that's a relatively minor thing. Good luck getting one!

Its always been their policy and they clearly state it on the website in the T&Cs.

The website is independent of the stores and run different offers, the stores often match local retailer prices where the website national retailers and have promotions like free blu ray players that cannot be found in store.

Glad you like TV, I will keep my eye on the website for the next influx and try to seal the deal quickly. Unless of course something else crops up like the W5810 for £529.... maybe?
#25
i went for the w810 instead for 529. Great telly for the money and got 300 for my old 40inch samsung.

Whats the viewing angle like on the 5810, read a report that suggests not so great, id be viewing from about 8 ft away and maybe 3-4 foot to the left of centre... would you take a view and let me know?
Thanks

Fantastic deal.

I bought the 32 inch 32EX503 about 4 weeks ago for full price of £699
Slightly miffed that the larger set is now cheaper than that.
But it's a great set. Fully featured. Excellent picture quality.

If you can live without the 5 year guarantee then go for the Comet deal.
Same price when you trade in but you get a Sony photo frame included (worth £69) and can also use quidco (3%). Stock levels might also be better.

Last time Sony did a similar trade in offer they also offered a free extended guarantee.
Looks like they have decided not to this time round.

I was going to buy the KDL40EX403 but it's only 50hz so looked at buying this one but it's not in stock now!!!
#29
Yep it's out of stock, I will keep checking the web site, we have till the 11th July for the trade in so there's hope yet!
#30
They are back in stock now, about 500 were delivered last night.. so there should be enough... ordered mine this morning.. one week for earliest deliver date.. but worth the week wait!!

I missed out AGAIN!

I'm annoyed with JL. I emailed them on monday and they told me that it will be in stock NEXT week.

Does anyone know when they will be in stock again?

I also spoke with them last week. They told me they had 500 on order coming into their warehouse today (7th). I was also told it would take a couple of days before it was listed online. However, this lunch time when I checked it was already online! I ordered one over the phone - with delivery on Wed next week. At that point they had around160 units in stock. I presume they are expecting more to arrive - but I suggest checking their site in the mornings, visit one of their stores to reserve one (as one of the posts above) or call them up! Good Luck
#37
Not sure why this is expired - it's out of stock right now, but more stock is expected imminently?

My TV arrived yesterday, and it is fantastic, the blacks are superb, the colours amazing and watching Avatar on it in Blu-Ray was quite literally out of this world!

Defo recommend this TV to anyone and everyone...

The Sony center is doing the same deal with trade in. Also 5 year warranty , and I think tec7 who sell stuff at house of fraser are doing the same
#39
Weren't Currys doing the same offer, but for £599? (£699 without trade-in of old TV)

S'pose Currys don't exactly do 5-year warranties though.
