Looks good. Anyone know the difference between these models apart from the specs? I have an Acer 7535G, looks the same as the picture for this offered laptop, but it's a 5739G. Is the latter an older model or what?

same deal in acerdirect.

"+ Windows 7 Upgrade CD Just"... £29 extra ;)
#5
Thought the upgrade offer was gone now (purchases BEFORE 31 Jan 2010)
http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/
AND... it was only £12.78, so what's this arrangement all about?

Do your checking before buying!

Acer are crap, the build quality sucks.

Wouldn't touch.

Why make a decent Laptop and utterly ruin it with a crappy low spec graphics card?

This would have had real potential as a great all rounder if only they had put in a decent card.

My Acer 5920G has been going for nearly 3 years .. not a problem or a hiccup.
Has even survived a hot cup of coffee being tipped over it (must admit it didnt work for about 5 days but it sprang to life and its fine now).

Looks good to me :)

Wonder if these guys went back to Acer and ordered the upgrade disk before the deadline? There must have been a ton of these in transit or warehouses

I'm an avid laptop gamer and I wouldn't describe the Nvidia 130M as 'crappy'. I'd agree there are better cards but I defy you to tell me where you can buy better in a laptop that costs £500! (and has a blu-ray reader fitted).

The 130M is based on the GT 9600M but with a faster core speed. I have an Nvidia 220M card in my lappie (which is a rebadged 9600M) and I am constantly pleased at how well it handles games like Bioshock. Timeshift & FEAR 2 on maxed out settings & at 1368 x 768. Ok it struggles a bit with Cryostasis but so what? There's are plenty of other games out there which I can buy and play.

Hot from me.

What are you on about?

The 130 is a good card for laptops!

Seems quite a nice deal if you ask me. I am typing this while on my Acer Travelmate 8006LMi from 2004 which cost £1,500 back then. Now I look today and see laptops like this come out for £500 and think what great value for money they represent. Probably should update this old workhorse to something like this is weights a ton and gets far too hot and turns itself off every no and again. BUT the screen is fantastic on it.
#17
Not a bad price. Would be a scorcher if it had a DVD drive instead, and was £100 less ;)
#18
man had it been £50 cheaper i would of tooken the dive.

If you say so.

If you want something around that spec, you should be very interested in the packard bell deal.

Better cpu, better gpu, better brand, £80 less.

How I laughed!

Better brand?
Odd, seeing it IS Acer!

It's Vista and has no blu-ray drive (Packard Bell)

Been looking at Dell recently, a few good deals on with them.

That's like saying Ferraris are Fiats.

Just because one company owns the other does not mean the quality associated with the subsidiary company's brand automatically changes to match that of the parent company.

According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/ the GPU in the Acer is far better.

You have taken my comment out of context.

I was responding directly to this Acer laptop, which has a GeForce 9300M.
The Packard Bell has a G105M which is very similar to the 9300M, however the G105M runs at a much higher clock speed, but has fewer shader pipelines.
Overall though it performs better.

Yes, to a small degree, but Acer is the brand that had the higher reputation in the first place!

Acers are better built than packard bells and compaqs/. Not opinion, but according to customer surverys from dec 2009,

The GPU in this is far better than a 9300 or 105m, Far better. Evolution is probably confused with the 1xx name, perhaps if he looked over a few review sites, he'll see what a capable card this is. Certainly not a 5870, but quick enough for gaming at 1366x768 at medium to high graphics settings in most modern titles.

I bought the Acer 7738G from laptopsdirect that was advertised earlier here by Jawa, if I remember corretctly, and typing on it now, Acer have definately upped their game. It is virtually faultless and is definately bang-for-buck and good-looking. Have fun paying twice for a similar Sony if you ignire this, I say

As good a the deal I posted about a week ago for the same machine on Simply Acer and got 3 comments and 48 lonely degrees of hotness ... Oh, rats, this deal is £ 539 now and so is this one;

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/621373/acer-aspire-5739g-654g50bn-499-97-s

doh!

Like I said, I spent rather too long looking at this kind of thing. I suppose you just have to bite the bullet sometimes and spend some to save some. ho-hum.
