I love my Hanns G, a HW173D and the quality is superb... how do they do it for the price?

By making it 17" :p
Awesome price! Decent resolution for the size of monitor and a reliable brand :)
They also save by selling widescreen monitors. They use less silicon than standard 4:3 monitors.

You can check:
1440x900=1,296,000 pixels
1280x1024=1,310,720 pixels

A saving of 14,720 pixels (and as we all know, pixels means transistors).

Exact same reason behind laptop screens.
Fab price. I run an extended desktop on my PC and am considering upgrading to a 4 monitor card. 4 of these would do me a treat.

Have some heat.
msharif911.... We can guess what wound run on those screens ;-))))))
