Good price, looks like play sell for £179.99. Shame it's not 10" version for that price.
#2
I wish someone would make a proper iPad killer that's affordable. Samsung missed the point with the galaxy tab or whatever they're calling it, by expecting to charge the same price As an iPad.

Customer Notice
We are currently experiencing problems with our online Makro Mail viewer.
We are working to resolve the problem and we apologise for any inconvenience.
We hope to have the issue resolved with 24 hours.

It's likely the online version of Makro mail won't be online until late Tuesday/Wednesday as far as I know.

There are sometimes regional variations and Makro mail can be different in other parts of the country. For me (Essex) it's on the final page of the non-food mag (page 48).

I'd still prefer that over an iPad in pretty much every way though. I like the iPod Touch, but I see no reason why anyone would get an iPad. I can see how it is easier to quickly search the internet or watch youtube videos, but you don't do that the entire day anyway.
#7
3 hour battery life is pretty shocking though, apparently only a 1500mah battery. Really should add a couple of MM to the depth of the device and give it some bigger batteries.
#8
WHY DO THEY ALL HAVE 256mb RAM?? HTC DESIRE HAS 512mb & HAS TO COVER LESS RELUTION. QUIET ANNOYING THAT. WILL WAIT FOR CAPACITIVE ANDROID WITH 10" SCREEN, 512+ RAM, WI-FI, 3G, BLUETOOTH, USB, DECENT INTERNAL STORAGE & CARD SLOT. MOST ARE NEARLY THERE BUT ALWAYS MISS THE CRITICAL STUFF. LIKE RAM OR CAPACITIVE (NEXT)

sorry.. i had caps lock on (_;)
#9
Shame it only has 256mb ram and a 800x480 screen. Someone's bound to get this right sooner or later mind, without the samsung/ipad price tag!
#10
Playbook? ;)

This one is £140 (inc worldwide shipping I believe) but is 600mhz overclocked to 800mhz (good battery life though!)

i know its not really in the price range, but if your looking at getting a tablet, this think is definatly worth a look. out in nov, dec time, should be bitchin.

I'm waiting for a 'decent' 7-10 inch tablet for around the £200 mark. Don't care if it takes another year.

By decent, I mean

* A good enough processor and gpu for 720p video, flash and games.
* Enough ram for multitasking, Min 1GB would be good.
* Good resolution 1024x768 or 1280x800 or better.
* Expandable flash storage.
* Minimum of 5 hours battery life, good if 7 hours or more.
* Apps/App Market connectivity.
* WiFi
* Bluetooth, so I can tether it to my phone for internet connectivity on the move.

I don't believe we have one yet at the price I'm willing to pay.

You'd prefer that over the iPad in every way?? How the hell did you come to that conclusion? I have an iPad, 3G 64Gb and while I wouldn't have bought it myself (the wife bought it for my birthday) it is without any doubt a fantastic device that's far, far better that tatty 'rivals' such as this. I would much prefer a windows-based pad that has flash, office, etc. but for some reason Apple's opposition just cannot pull the trigger.

Personally, I am fed up of Apple haters claiming all that's wrong with Apple. The iPhone is a few years old and only now is the competition starting to make phones that can be mentioned in the same breath. The iPod has been around for years and still there is no one who can make a device that's so stylish and easy to use. The iPad has been here for much less time but there's still no sign of an iPad beater. Can't MS, Sony, etc. have an original thought and be innovative, rather than watch Apple take the whole pie and do little about it.

Is it worth getting excited about something with an ARM processor I wonder?

Why am I suddenly starting to feel old??

Doesn't even come with Froyo
Another missed opportunity

I wish someone would make a proper iPad killer that's affordable.

If you look at the technology, the iPad is actually quite competitively priced. I remember how the price point was quite a shock to the whole industry. Apple obviously expects to make most of the money with accessories and the market place.

Any significantly cheaper tablet is also going to be significantly worse, I think.

That is the key feature I am missing in the iPad. And a few more connectors: USB, VGA etc.

I love how British companies have started picking up cheap tat from china and banging huge mark-up on them. Do yourselves a favour, if you must buy these nasty android cheapo's then get buy it yourself from china, you'll only waste half the amount for when you realise how rubbish they are. (_;)

Low res screen, and laggy.
banned#22
why do you geeks even need such a device?
#23

Claims WXGA screen. The only device that I know of with a WXGA screen is the Gigabyte touchnote and while the spec is better they also cost the best part of £500. It also states Arm 11. which means at that price will be the 36J which is the same chip used in the last generation smartphones which were never designed to run WXGA screens as the device wont have enough spare memory for the frame buffer which means it will have horrible display lag.

So either the spec is wrong or its going to be woeful to use.

Low res screen, and laggy

Adidad Addict -Why should this be laggy? the Ipad has a 1ghz processor as does the Archos !!
Resolution i would not call low either , again its the same as the Ipad.
the older Archos were definitely low res and very laggy but this model comes out in next couple of weeks and cannot be compared with the old Archos tablets.

Something to keep an eye on is the Viewsonic G Tablet.

Its 10inch (capacitive touch screen), 1GB DDR2 RAM, 16GB SSD (also has a card slot to increase the memory), 1GHz Tegra 2 Processor and chipset (plays HD movies), HDMI & USB out. Android 2.2, battery life of 8 hours.

The only problem with it, is that you can't access the Android Market Place and its only available in the US at the moment. Price is around $429.

Sorry no Apple on it and not overpriced. Cold.
#27
Is this capacative? If so hot, multitouch scorching. If its a sh*tty resistive screen then cold imo.
#28
These look quite nice
#29
err I think your better off with a Netbook of some kind for now

these cheap tabs are gonna be even cheaper next year if you really want one
and they prolly have resistive screen (which have there plus points when utilised correctly!)

That's what Apple's iOS-based stuff runs on.
Not to mention the majority of Android-based hardware coming out.

I agree apple are great innovators, and lead the way with all their product releases.
The things that make people hate Apple is their 'price fixing'. For a two year old electronic device, the Iphone's price is artificially held high by Apple, All the major networks make about 120% profit on apple products that they cannot discount because Apple refuse to allow it.
This could be a good marketing ploy or it could make their products too expensive and allow competition from google to exploit the affordability gap.
Android would never have existed if Apple products were not artificially inflated!

You dont really NEED 90% of the things in your life to live, but you just have them cause there nice to have.

I'm not ecstatic by Apple's pricing, hardware, software, restrictions, etc. but surely the problem lays squarely at the feet of their competitors? As I said, these other companies are being left by the wayside by Apple when it comes to innovation and technical advancement. Why the hell are they just imitating (badly) Apple's equipment months/years after it's been released? The big players are getting lazy and their R&D seems non-existant. I really thought that Samsung, Sony and Dell would have stepped up to the plate over the last twelve months and brought out some truly great pc-pad type products but where the hell are they? Apple will charge whatever the hell they want because people will pay it as there is little/no competition at the moment (iPad). If there was a real competitor to the ipad, it had all the essential features that the iPad sadly lacks and the price was reasonable, I am certain that it would hit iPad sales for six. Where the hell is it??

Oh, if iPhones are artificially high, why are all the latest Android phones almost identically priced to them (iphone)? Call the iphone 4 what you will but the phone is undoubtedly a quality piece of kit and I've yet to see an android phone possessing the same or better quality.

Agree however when the developers catch up this will be big I expect.

RIM have already said their application approvals will not allow stupid applications therefore don't expect too much in the way of gaming or other fun utilities.

I have a BlackBerry for work and for the life of me, I fail to see why people would want to own such a device as a personal phone. The OS is cludgy, the applications aren't particularly good and overall, it just seems pitiful.

I know I posted the Next listing, however I should point out that none of these devices have 3G built in. They all require either a USB dongle to be plugged in or tethering to another device. The playbook also will not have a 3G chip therefore if you're after something that allows connection to the internet without a reliance on another piece of kit, then the Ipad is the way to go (unless Samsung really do drop their pricing significantly, and I'm ignoring Dell's streak due to the woeful implementation of it.

they also do a archos android 7 in for £150 as well would never have thought to look at next thanks for the link
