The website spec seems to be of the earlier version of this product which had an AV socket that was switchable between input (handy for an iPod video) and output whereas the newer version (per the box) is output only.
#5
If the AV is output only - how can it be used as a TV?

Edit - I was thinking of RF socket - DOH!
#6
Built in tuner

It's handy if you've got a decent TV aerial in the kitchen.

It can also be used as a media file player / freeview digibox on your TV, although I can't say it functions great.

I bet that is correct.

Here it mentions both resolutions:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Gadgets/Life+style/Elonex+7%22+Digital+TV+Picture+Frame+with+Freeview+&+Mp3+playback+?productId=30403

Usually "native" is the correct resolution, and that is 480x234. Typical marketing speak, imho - and it should be illegal!

Unfortunately it is £50 instore for me this afternoon.

Good luck to anyone finding it at £25 ...
#10
Got one of these last week at Caerphilly Asda Store, very good value for £25
#11
I was in Asda Cannock this morning and it was still labelled £50. At £25 I might be tempted!

I got mine from Asda Cannock, was in there today "2pm" and it's still definitely £25, it's on the camera section, there's only one on display right by the digital cameras , you have to ask for them as they keep them behind the counter.

Just grabbed one, cheers. Gave a couple as xmas presents at full price, and fancied one myself for the spare room. They were still labeled at 50 on the shelf, but scan for 25.

These price reductions never seem to apply to the asda toryglen store in glasgow.Went in earlier todat to get the £135 ipod touch 8 gb deal which was posted a few days ago and its £147 in my store :( .These asda deals seem to be hit and miss, good luck to anyone that can get this at this price

720 x 480 Pixel Resolution isnt 16:9 though

These were advertised in the Byker (Newcastle ) store as £50 reduced to £25 late last week. I noticed them after being lucky enough to get a couple of Nintendo dsi next door at Argos in the £79 deal.

Been to Asda this afternoon and there are none of these frames left.
#18
Thanks for the tip. Just got the last one in Southport. The one I bought was still on the shelf for £50, but I asked at the till and it scanned at £25; so don't believe the price on the shelf.

how did you manage to get dsi's at that price
knew the nintedo ds lites were that price but wasnt aware the dsi's were
#20
Nintendo DSI advertised on here New Years EVE looked like a price mistake. Reserved 2 by text and managed to pick them up before lunch time. I was unable to pay at the automated machine and instructed to go to the till. Was pleasantly suprised when I got them for that price. I understand many people were refused the deal when they got to the store.

Can I use it in my car? Does it have a cigarette plug? Will I be able to catch any progremmes on the go?
#22
It can be powered up by some universal power adapters from the in-car cigarette socket, but I doubt if you could get stable enough signals to get the digital TV. Other functions will work though.

Probably not a good idea to watch telly when ya driving :p

Good deal , but to be honest i would,nt want to watch tv on a 7 in frame.....or play my music from it.......but as a pic frame thats ok......so a good price for that only............already got a new kodak one , so wont be looking for this one...heat..hot..
#25
Asda are pants at reducing prices, picked one up yesterday was labeled 50 quid asked for price check was 25 purchased
so just ask
#26
Interesting having one in the kitchen, but I don't have an aerial. Will a cheap aerial work?
#27
just got 3 from asda, dyce... they have another 4 on the shelf........ (electrical dept shut at 8pm)
#28
A 7" digital TV and photoframe for £25!!! You wouldn't get a digibox...or a photoframe alone for that price!!! Excellent find...hope my Asda has one.
#29
Got one two days ago from ASDA Isle of Dogs. Header board said £50 but had a tiny roll back shelf edge showing £25.

Works great as a TV round here as I can see the transmitter - reckon you'd need a proper aerial elsewhere.

Weird aerial socket that means it doesn't sit flat though.
#30
Have just picked one up from Asda Cannock - had plenty of display boxes left so I assume they have quite a few still in stock.

Hoping to use this to replace the little TV in the kitchen. Just need to find a suitable aerial now!!
#31
Just checked my local ASDA and they seem to be selling the wrong ones. On the price label it says Elonex digital TV photo frame: £25, but all I could see were plain old, non-TV, Elonex photo frames. Just a heads-up there.

Got one yesterday.
£50 on the shelf, scanned at £25.
Dan, I wonder if ASDA accidentally reduced the wrong product to £25?

At £25, its cheap!

But it is CHEAP!
Nasty on board buttons, absolutely awful built-in speakers, cluttered remote control, and a very poor manual. (Would anyone be so good as to explain to me how to make the favourite channel lists work? And what the 'favourite' button on the main menu does ... )
What a shame that the clock/calendar loses its setting when unplugged or switched off.
And why oh why does it always on power-on give tv subtitles ON? (Fine on wake from standby, but after power-off its subtitles next time!)

But, hey, it works!
The picture is reasonable for tv.
It does need a decent tv aerial though.
And either a short or a right-angled aerial plug -- otherwise it won't stand level ... (poor design thinking).
The power adaptor is rated as 5v at 1.5 amps. (For car/caravan/boat user info.) But the manual says it draws 12 watts (not 7.5) when running. (Doh!)

You can change the subtitles problem in the settings and then it doesn't come on anymore when you turn it on.

Personally, I think it is an absolute bargain. I have it set up as a bedside table and alarm clock. Pretty nifty, can set a sleep timer and set it to go off at a specific time. Can also wake up to whichever tv or radio channel you choose. Screen resolution is very good and tv picture is fantastic.

Like you I am annoyed by the design of the socket holes at the bottom. That is pretty poor design.
#34
Can any owners say if it can wake to any kind of movie file in alarm mode ?

I can turn off subtitles.
They stay off through 'turning off' (going straight to standby - red 'power' button).
But they come back if you unplug from the mains!
Or if you go back to the main "function" menu.

Its a PITA.

Usefulness (trust) as an alarm clock is limited by the zero-ing of time and date (reset to midnight 1/1/09) on the briefest of power interruptions!
Flimber

You should be able to achieve that with an auto-play movie and the "auto power" function - switch on (or off) at a preset time.
But, without battery backup, you shouldn't trust it to actually happen ...

The thing is an amazing bargain at £25.
But its not flawless.

amazing piece of kit.. picks up reception well of any ariel..remote has all functionality.. sound not the loudest but still ok for a small device. av out allows you to rig it up to any other tv if you want to.

has anyone worked out what movie files can be played back on this??

can you play .avi files?

also how do you get it so that when the alarm goes off the TV comes on?

thanks

I haven't tried avi files but the manual/box says it plays mpeg format files
