Ha, strange that. I've checked the link and it's correct when I typed it in. Gremlins in the system

I've just seen that next do one for £99 too. I have no idea about this sort of thing but which one us the best? Also I have an iPhone and have no idea about this type of system. I take it up can download exactly the same sort of stuff for free with this

can these units be upgraded to Android 2.2?

I'd say that they are basically the same machine. You can download apps from the android store, just like your Iphone. The Store is installed on the machine already. If you have an Iphone then I'd prob go for the 10" version here http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/electric/carryover/10/13 because the 7" screen looks smaller than you'd think

Cold voters - could you let the rest of us in on why you consider this to be rubbish?

Plus Quidco, possibly other cashback instead -
2.5% for sales made with a voucher code
8% for all other sales

Voucher code for £5 off orders over £65 at Maplins - secret5

Isn't this similar to an iPad but a fraction of the price? Why voting cold then?
#9
Looks pretty good - at this price you can't expect it to be an ipad killer

I just looked at similar devices at Dealtime and found that they cannot be upgraded. I have never used Android so cannot comment on the pros and cons of it.

havent voted either way-must pop into maplins and actually have a play around with one-there is one that looks exactly the same advertised in the sun newspaper this week for 89.95 delivered, but just cos it looks the same, doesnt mean it is.

worth investigating the quality of this tho.

Definately cold from me.

The tech-spec sounds pretty terrible:
CPU VIA WM8505
Main Frequency 300MHz
System Operate System Google Android 1.6
Memory RAM 128MB
Flash Memory 2GB Nand flash

and it's even worse than than The bottom of the range CheryyPad[link] which reviewers have said is lacking
The device needs another 256MB of RAM (for 512MB total) and a higher quality touch screen (perhaps a 1GHz CPU?)

This thing from Maplin sounds like a piece of cheap junk that will only be useful as a paperweight

People shouldn't vote cold before thinking of uses - this would be ideal for a childs xmas present - would you seriously want to give an 8 year old an i-pad?
#17
indeed a paperweight. If you want to enjoy android you need better specs.

Thank you. That has helped me. I had only planned on buying this as a Childs present. Much cheaper than an iPod touch and a bigger screen. It has certainly made me look into them a bit more

Not worth the money.. Avoid... Everyone please stop comparing the things to the ipad/ipod/ip*****.

The iPad is no industry leader - its just the first tablet to to be halfway decent . Give it a year or two for some decent models.

the Ipad can't do flash and its a very limited in what it can do device. Just avoid tablets till they are better .

Year or two? I say that you will just need to wait two weeks, with the Advent Vega coming out next week along with the Archos 70 and 101!

Three tablets, all running Android with capacative screens (i.e. finger friendly) and 1Ghz processors (i.e very fast and should support future updates of Android) and all for sale under £250. I think that hits a price sweet spot for tablets (i.e around the price of a netbook) so I can see the Android Tablet market really taking off and being a viable alternative to the iPad

heya, thanks for all the useful comments :p but i am wondering can it play videos from sites like realside and megavideo and curica...???? (_;)

in my 2 cence, i can't really talk about tablet computers becuse i have never used them but judging from the specification, it is firstly not a contender with the main competitors so u wont get a decent experience and secondly for the price, y dont u put that bit more money in and get a cheap netbook becuse the specs are instantly doubled or tripled and u get an OS where u can download apps at your own autonomy or even install an open source OS so everything is free.

of course a netbook and a tablet pc are 2 different products but if u want a thin tablet, get a decent one or if u are not concerned and want decent hardware u are better off even with a 2nd hand netbook as they are more versatile.
