CHEAP BUT PRETTY SOLID 7 LED TORCH OFFERING GOOD ILLUMINATION AND LONG BATTERY LIFE - OVER 40 HOURS LIGHT WITH TWO ALDI 4000mAh RECHARGEABLES

I bough some of these a couple of weeks back - the plan being to use them at a Hallowe'en party. My niece. nephew & friends have been playing with them for the last week, and they have been dropped and bounced as you would expect but are still all working fine.

They are a metal tube - with a plastic cap at either end, and recessed glass at the front.

I left one on continually to see how long it ran for - and it got over 40 hours on 2x Aldi 4000mAh rechargeable D cells, so would give over 2 days constant light from the rechargeable batteries currently in Lidl.

More than bright enough to work on a car at night - and the beam lights up the wall at one end of the livingroom in total darkness when held 38 feet away at the other end.

The picture here is the same LED arrangement - and not the actual torch.

Jewson Builders Merchants have a similar torch on offer but its a wind up one (no batteries needed) for about a tenner. Very good IMO

It seems pretty robust.

The plastic tail cap has a spring in it - this conducts the power to the body that is screwed in to make contact. The spring is pretty thick as is the plastic cap so this should not be a problem.

The on/off switch is pretty robust, so I guess will be OK.

The front section breaks into two plastic parts. The back one being the part that fixes to the metal body - and the front part is what secures the glass (which actually is glass) and the 7 LED assembly.

After the kids playing with it for a while - the only damage was the batteries inside have made an indentation on the rear metal contact of the LED assembly - presumably caused by the weight of the battery when the torch has been dropped. Its just dented in a little - but still works fine.

There - a pretty detailed breakdown of a £1 torch! :-D :-D :-D

These things are great as bicycle lights. Similar ones sold as bike lights can be £20 or more.

Get the LED Lenser X21 - At just £179 odd more its worth it!

If I could find where I put my phone I would have uploaded a picture. Its not the type you see with mounts for bikes, and it probably flares to about 2.5 inches 63mm in diameter at the front - so probably a bit on the large side for bar mounts.

Even given the quality of Lenser construction - I know which I would rather have a shower of kids playing with!!!

6 Month warranty at that price?

They can stick it where the torch don't shine. :x
