Good Deal.

The only problem with it is that you have a lovely warm Holiday and then you have to come back. Urghh

shock to the system or what.

I always go to the Algarve just as winter in NEARLY over but still cold/wet/windy so that two weeks later (Hopefully) it's nice and warm again.

That's the weather here. It's hard to predict the weather in December... but it certainly is not AWFUL 100% of the time. Variable is more like it.

Ive never found Gatwick stressful personally, and also i live closer to Gatwick thus is easier, and cheaper on transport.

It's not exactly the definition of 'cold and wet' either... or 'awful'.

That's an AVERAGE maximum high - not a maximum high. There's a bit of a difference there.

Winter, from December till February, is very mild with an average high temperature of 16ºC in December and February which drops just slightly to 15ºC in January. Night time lows hover around 10ºC which is chilly but nowhere near as cold as it is in the UK. It rarely gets down to freezing though further from the coast it can dip down and frosts can occur. However, in 2006 snow covered the beaches; in this time of climate change nothing can be out-ruled. What is more likely than snow is a gust of hot wind blowing up from Africa; even in winter temperatures in the low 20s can be experienced. However, this is not to be relied upon and no one should expect to show off their bikini if visiting at this time of year. Sunshine levels, around six hours per day, are six times the measly helping doled out to most areas of the UK. Rainfall is at its highest but it still isn’t particularly high and usually sticks to short showers or thunderstorms.

The sea in Portugal even in August is colder than the north pole, so forget December lol
#14
We own an apartment opposite the Rio and I can tell you that you will not be disappointed.
The weather is a bit of a lottery as it is everywhere in December. But chances are that it will be dry, sunny for some of the time and a bl**dy sight warmer than in UK!
AND the cheapest Easy Jet or Monarch flight will set you back at least £60!

AND the sea is perfectly fine. I am not a cold water fan and I've been in the sea on Xmas Day in Vilamoura!

I'm sorry but i went last year and the weather was excellent. I was in shorts and t-shirt most days. It gets very cold at night when there's no cloud cover but most the time its fine. Certainly didn't expirence the wind and rain you claim is waiting.

I think anyone who goes will have a great time, i really like seeing these places when its a bit quieter, no drunken idiots or kids everywhere, its good.

Spot on. The negative posts must be from people who have never been in winter.I have gone for a week in January and February for the past 5 years and has always been at the least T shirt weather although cold at night.Going for new year this time and cant wait.

my parents have a place in Vilamoura and have been going there for 10 years - the weather in winter edges up to about 18 degrees on average, but can go up to abour 20 if you're lucky! last winter was the wettest for 13 years, october to april is rainy season and rains more than other times of the year. you can sometimes go for dinner in the marina on xmas day in a t-shirt, possibly a light jacket but def brighter than here!!
