With only a few seats left for departures this weekend, Transun has dropped the price of a 7-night Essential Arctic package to Finnish Lapland by £350. It's £199 for seven days in Lapland. A price this low is practically unheard of.

Guests will stay for seven nights at the Davvi Arctic Lodge in Karesuando on a room-only basis. Departure is from Manchester and Bristol on 23 January

it's got great reviews but is room only and looks like there's nowhere to buy food (not even tea making in the room) so you have to use their resturaunt, can't find prices for that thou...this could end up being an expensive week

Davvi Arctic Lodge website lists activities, but all will cost extra. Probably a great holiday for a photographer.

You've got more chance of winning the lottery than seeing the northern lights - It comes in 11 year cycles (low at the moment), can only be seen from extreme north on a very clear night.

When we went there, we spoke to some locals who said that they hadn't seen it that year, but did see it for a minute or so, one night the previous year !

You'll need an extra suitcase full of cash to cover your beer money though. Was in Finland last week and it was approaching £6.00 a pint.
#15
Good price. Deals for Finland have been few and far between this year. We went to Yllas 2 years ago and had an awesome time. Would love to go back but would be after a chartered chalet again.

Don't need Jaffa Cakes there will be plenty of Scandinavian crumpet to go round.

hate snow and hate the cold...not for me but 199 for 7 nights is good.

Although it's not as bad as it used to be pricewise a week's food and drink in Finland, particularly in a tourist spot in the middle of absolutely nowhere, could get expensive. I recall paying nearly a quid for a Mars bar in northern Finland twenty years ago.
#21
look on tripadvisor, last time this deal came around on the site (may have been a diff hotel though) the VAST majority of people say do the trip but avoid Transun like the plague as they are very very very disorganised

I went to Lapland a few weeks ago, stayed in Pallas for 3 nights, saw the Northern Lights EVERY night whilst there........

Was in Finland 2 years ago and beer/food was the same price as here? Everyone was telling me before I went how expensive it was, but not in my experience. Also, Spend 6 months in Canada, and saw the Northern Lights plenty of times so I don't think its that rare - could get a bad week/clouds though. Luck of the draw I guess. If I didn't have commitments I would love to go, right up my alley! (ooh err)

Good deal - more to Lapland than the Northern Lights I'm sure.....

20 years ago it was much more expensive than here, but since they joined the EU prices of many items have fallen, relatively. Beer is much the same price now as 20 years ago.

However, I'd be very wary of prices in a tourist area where there's little chance of shopping around.

Norway is still very expensive, even the Swedes and Finns I know regard Norway as poor value.

Probably people more educated than you. If you've seen them once, you would definitely want to see them again and again. If you stay on HUKD long enough, there will be some deals for Poundland that will suit you more, I'm sure.

The best (scenic) approach to an airport was flying into Tromso a few years back, I was sat on the left of the plane.

The food costs are listed here: http://www.davvihotel.com/roomrates.html

Assume its a buffet/fixed charge restaurant. Breakfast. lunch and dinner would be 45 Euro/pppd. Although if this trip is with Transun (couldn't find it on Travelzoo for some reason, but hotel site links to Transun who advertise £199 rate) its bed and breakfast.

Was considering it, but when you factor in the cost of excursions/food/drinks it would probably approach £700-800/pp for us at the very least. Would rather plan a trip like that more extensively.

If you're looking to relax and take in the views I guess it may be more appealing.

Northern lights aren't super rare like someone has already stated, great price by the way...fill your suitcase with pork pies and you're onto a winner.
